Vladimir Putin's fierce rival and critic Alexei Navalny has died, according to the prison service.
The Russian opposition leader, who was the most prominent and persistent domestic foe of President Vladimir Putin, had been serving a 19-year sentence on an extremism conviction. He had been incarcerated in central Russia’s Vladimir region, 140 miles east of Moscow.
Navalny has been behind bars in Russia since January 2021, when he returned to Moscow after recuperating in Germany from nerve agent poisoning that he blamed on the Kremlin. Before his arrest, he campaigned against official corruption and organized major anti-Kremlin protests.

It is happening here in the USA as well. Biden = Putin.
Why you're allowed here on Free Republic I'll never know.
Hey Jim, why do we have advocates for political assassination against anti-corruption leaders here on the board. This is the point it's gotten to with the pro-Putin crowd. It really has changed the tone and tenor of this place over the past few years, and NOT for the better.
This isn't just about mere political disagreement, it is a battle against savages. Just because OUR country is having problems we shouldn't be a place advocating for the butchery of invading other countries without provocation, or extra-judicial killing those not guilty of capital crimes.
Nothing in your post is true.
-Girkin, you want to go for a walk?
-No, I’m good
“Nothing in your post is true.”
Yossarian, everything in your post is true and this is emphasized by Ivan Prezzton’s lame retort which is full of invective and devoid of fact.
For me, it’s the personal attacks and false accusations against me and my military service. He’s been told to stop and he persists.
Meg, you’ve posted that you are autistic and that you have sent weapons to Ukraine. I have no reason to doubt you.
You’d be best off not posting to me. Why you persist I’ll never know.
But, what American that gives a damn given that we have dozens of peaceful J6 prisoners facing years in prison and pro-life protesters, which engaged in acts of civil disobedience at abortion mills, facing 11 years in prison.
Who gives a damn when we have a sitting President trying to imprison his political opponent and deny him ballot access.
Who cares when we have President that has opened the borders and is openly aiding and abetting drug trafficking and allow Chinese nationalists, violent criminals and potential Islamic terrorists into the country.<> Freep Navalny and anyone posting an article about him. It's nothing but orchestrated propaganda to push through more more wasted tax dollars for Ukraine, money that is going to be laundered to our corrupt political class and their financial backers.
Thank you. And I don’t disagree with you on everything you post. In fact some of what you post is exemplary and of a standard I used to consider normal on FR.
But your default use of invective when you have no other argument cheapens the reputation of your other posts.
Yes, I am autistic and because of this I generally compartmentalize and judge posts by their content. Your name on the post (or the names of any of the other pro-Soviet/Russian posters) has little effect on my evaluation of the particular post.
Even some of your overtly anti-Ukrainian posts are solid and they check out. IMHO only Mariner has a better track record of putting out factual posts that are overtly anti-Ukrainian.
If you’d refrain from the insults and stick to factual responses your reputation would improve and the credibility of your posts would also improve. I’d also stop studying your posts for known troll or propaganda tactics.

Megan
Thank you Meg and your explanation is why I didn’t take your desire to engulf the planet 🌏 In thermonuclear war seriously.
“Thank you Meg and your explanation is why I didn’t take your desire to engulf the planet in thermonuclear war seriously.”
It’s not a desire but a calculation:
1. Russia has nuclear weapons
2. Russia constantly threatens to use nuclear weapons
3. If Russia makes any move to use them then it is reasonable and rational to attack their nuclear weapons systems simultaneously. Hopefully by conventional means. Failing that then nuclear.
I don’t exactly have the same emotional ‘circuit breakers’ that other people might have. I take threats very seriously and without regard to concepts like bluffing or bluster.
There’s also a predilection in the West to disregard all threats by non-Western nations as purely bluff or bluster. While this is certainly an aspect of Russian foreign policy it is also an aspect of Russian culture.
The Russians have a habit of talking themselves into ultimately self-defeating actions. In this they are very similar to the Latin Americans who all too often act according to their standards of ‘machismo’ regardless of how blazingly stupid such an action would be.
Therefore when they make nuclear threats I attribute their threats with a certain level of credibility.
Unlike other people such threats have no impact on me. I am not scared of the Russians when they say such things. I simply assess the threat, the capability and credibility of the people issuing the threat, and respond accordingly.
I do take comfort in the fact that there are people in our military who evaluate things the same way I do and they have plans to promptly respond if the Russian nuclear posture suddenly changes. I also take it for granted that the US and NATO have forward deployed intermediate range missiles and other nuclear weapons systems into Poland, Finland, and either or both Estonia and Latvia. They’d be foolish not to.
And here’s a little secret I’ll let you in on: I often mirror provocative comments from pro-Soviet/Russian posters seeking their outraged responses. My recent tagline of “Ruzzians aren’t people” was very effective.
And it was a mirror of the comment currently in my tagline that was stated by a Russian named Anton Krasovsky and amplified on FR by at least seven different posters.
The next time you see me post something “outrageous” about Russia I guarantee you that whatever it will be that a Russian said it first.
Regards,
Megan
And, that’s the reason why I still donate to FR, too, in spite of a few whose actions here lately tell me to stop. (I did back off a lot, though, but I still donate and reckon they make up the difference.)
Courtesy ping. I mentioned you in this post.
In listening to Biden’s presser, he certainly is getting the most out of Navalny’s death, quoting Trumps comment about “Russia should do whatever the hell they want” . Looks like the Russian Nuclear scam didn’t work, so let’s send some CIA in a get Navalny. Perfect timing, Ukraine will now be fully funded.
I don't remember the confused old man screaming about Gonzalo Lira, do you?
Remember both Russia and China Tested anti-satellite weapons and in 2021 and Russia threatened to shoot down satellites..in 2021.
What a shame we don’t have any ASAT capability, eh….( that’s sarcasm)
And no one lately has even mentioned China as a future space threat
that might be because they a current threat. The us sure was impressed with they did with hyper sonic test
Sure don’t remember this threat being hyped as a national security issue at the time
