Cache of weapons, 1 million rounds of ammo found at Richmond residence (SF Area)

(KRON) — A Richmond man was arrested after a search of his home uncovered nearly a dozen military-style machine guns, 60 assault rifles and approximately 1 million rounds of ammunition, among other weapons and explosives, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Thursday. The suspect is alleged to be legally prohibited from owning any weapons.

The discovery of the large cache of suspected illegal firearms occurred on Jan. 31. Multiple agencies, including the California Department of Justice’s Bureau of Firearms and Contra Costa Anti-Violence Support Effort, served a search warrant at the Richmond residence in an effort to “retrieve guns from a prohibited individual,” the attorney general’s office said.

Through a search of the residence, the AG’s office said DOJ agents seized:

11 military-style machine guns

60 assault rifles

37 rifles

7 shotguns

133 handguns

Several suspected grenades

20 silencers

4 flare guns

3,000 large-capacity magazines

Approximately 1 million rounds of various caliber ammunition

Dozens of rifle receivers and pistol frames

Upon locating the grenades, the Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad and Travis Air Force Base Bomb Squad were called to respond. The grenades were found to be inert, the AG’s office said.

“This arrest demonstrates exactly why the Armed and Prohibited Persons System is vital for the safety of our communities,” said Bonta. The Armed and Prohibited Persons System identifies individuals who had lawfully procured firearms and then later became prohibited from owning or possessing them.

“I am grateful for our Bureau of Firearms agents’ and local law enforcement partners’ work in getting these illegal weapons out of the hands of this prohibited individual,” Bonta said.

The man’s identity and the location of his residence in Richmond were not shared by the attorney general’s office.

A FReeper in San Francisco? What’s his screen name?

~~~
Haha! That made me laugh out loud!
Seriously though, that’s not a home defense cache. I wonder if he was actively selling or exchanging any of that, or maybe planned to? Even if you are both obsessed and paranoid, you wouldn’t need all that. Kinda makes you wonder what he was planning and who he had been talking to. There’s probably more to this story.
Lol.
“Gotta wonder who narc’d.”
I’d put $20 on it being an ex wife with a restraining order.
Thus, grounds for the search warrant under current law.
In Richmond, it would not be a lie.
20 murders last year in a town of 115,000.
The fact they are withholding his name is suspicious.
Strange.
I would expect photos of a perp walk at the least.
It's not like anyone could say they were not his but unless this person has a heck of a discount supply contact then something is stashing weapons and ammo here in the U.S.
But no photo, not even a name?
Something is being hidden.
.
His movie Munich (2005) about the retaliation mission after the slaughter of the Israeli athletes at the Olympics had the Israeli agents rebuffed by the secretive group already on the case: “We don’t like governments. We don’t work with them. We work on our own.”
The Golda Meier quote in the movie:
Prime Minister Meir: It’s the same as Eichmann. You say to these butchers, “You didn’t want to share this world with us? Then we don’t have to share this world with you.”
"A million rounds would weigh quite a bit. Heavy and not easily moved around."
Heavy enough to cause a boating accident, even!
I am getting sick of cops labeling “collections” as “Caches” and “Arsenals”. But I have to be honest here. This is a real and true example of a cache and/or arsenal. Probably a Cartel operation.
I wish the Grenade lobby would get civilian use grenades legalized in the US. Depending on the price I would buy some and run a grenade throwing contest at the gun club.
“OK, now that IS a cache.
Gotta wonder who narc’d.”
~~~~~~~

Could be a relative hoping to cash in on his multi-million Dollar collection, by
having him declared incompetent, foolishly involving the government.

Dang! What an excellent collection! I see at least two Japanese Type 96 LMGs, an M2 .50, a Lewis Gun, an M1919A2 (I think) a Boyes Antitank Rifle, maybe a Lahti Antitank Rifle, and MP40 and at least one decent Thompson, two M3 Greaseguns, and two Carl Gustav SMGs.

That guy wasn't a gangbanger - not with those beauties!

11 military-style machine guns

There is so much wrong with this story. I would start with the "military-style machine guns". My guess is they are rendered inoperable.

Guessing he was “prohibited” not based on a conviction but on some questionable protection order. Never afforded due process in many cases.
