In coastal Ventura County, Republican Dirk Lay is in the middle of a fight that has already been settled in many other California counties.
Lay, 64, wants local voters to support more GOP candidates, convinced their governance can tackle local issues and help grow a conservative base in an overwhelmingly blue region. The way forward is clear, he says: Ventura’s “establishment” Republicans need to make way for "pro-reform" Trump supporters like himself. Lay and a slate of two other candidates are running to unseat members of Ventura’s Republican Central Committee, a localized arm of the party staffed by volunteers who face elections every four years, with equivalents in every county.
In a campaign flyer, the trio urges residents to “vote out” the “do-nothing Republican establishment” and “vote in your local America First Patriots for common sense change.”
“Donald Trump is part of the dividing line,” Lay said from his home in Camarillo. “I would say that the reform candidates, by and large, we are much more supportive of Donald Trump than the incumbent establishment.”

“I think that the people that like and support Trump are the people who defend themselves when they're attacked,” Lay said of one of his reasons for gravitating to Trump. “The other folks are the guys who just go along to get along, they want to be liked.”

It would explain why the politicians from here with an (R) behind their name generally are nothing more than a moderate democrat.
The NEW RIGHT!
“Moderation in what?”
Maybe they want the GOP to support Grooming of kids starting when they’re 10 years old, instead of the Democrat proposal of 5 years old?
60 years ago, in San Francisco, Republican Presidential candidate Barry Goldwater declared “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice . . . moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” Names change, but his statement rings true.
Steve Garvey wouldn’t say if he’d vote for Trump after voting for him twice. Is that smart?
The only people who remember him as a ballplayer are in their mid-40’s-more likely to vote. Does that help in this deep blue state?
GOP moderation in CA looks a lot like the dhimmicrap postions in most of the rest of the country.
Party leaders are there for the benefits, and prefer to not rock the boat against Democrats, in exchange for being allowed a share of the graft.
Since the end of World War II, only two Presidents, Reagan and Trump, made any serious attempt to reverse the big government policies of their predecessors. They were thwarted by both Democrats and moderate Republicans. At this point, only a second Trump administration willing to be as bold as FDR was for the other side will change our country for the better.
Why vote for Dem-Lite when you can vote for the real thing?
Sometimes you just have to stop the bleeding first.
Arnold won again in ‘06 but did nothing to help Tom McClintock in the Lt. Gov. race. Disgraceful.
McClintock is now one of them.
Just think. Arnold goes back to making movies 2 years into his term and quits citing the impossibility to govern. Eyebrows raised, McClintock takes over. The rest would be history.
I liked Garvey as a ball player but he is so weak as a canditate here in California,he should be proud of his past support for Trump, he embarrased himself during the debate with his pitiful performance, he is not a fighter.
Party leaders are Deep State.
Great ballplayer. Smart enough to move to the Padres rather than SF-most of the voters are in Southern Cal. Keep his zipper up and he’d be the incumbent.
Republicans are stupid. Schiff is evil. We lose to that.
*Republicans are stupid.*
Think Bill Janklow-SD Governor. Went on to be the states’ one house rep. Ended up being convicted of vehicular manslaughter. The seat was then ‘forfeited’ to a dingbat with a pretty face-Stephanie Herseth Sandlin. 6 years . Kristie Noem took it away from her. She’s prettier and one of us.
Sandlin-still pretty. What happens if one of the 2 useless rino senators quit? Guess who will ‘show up’ in the race? The at-large house guy-Johnson looks like someone who couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag.
SD is red last I looked. No excuses. Stupid.
