Lenin returned to Russia because he believed in Marxism and thought it would make Russia better. He wanted Trotsky to succeed him, but Stalin was craftier, and eventually killed Trotsky in Mexico. Stalin had his own motives which were to rule Russia and conquer. Trotsky believed in Marxism/communism for people everywhere.
