NEW: Trump posts 8th Amendment forbidding 'excessive fines' after $354 million ruling against him

On Tuesday afternoon, coming after a New York judge ruled that $354 million must be paid in a civil case against him, Donald Trump posted a screenshot of the 8th Amendment to Truth Social that forbids "excessive fines" for the punishment of crimes.

Text of the amendment in the Constitution's Bill of Rights reads, "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."

It was posted after Trump was fined over $350 million in the New York City case ruled against him. The ruling came down against Trump from New York Judge Arthur Engoron.

New York Attorney General Letitia James brought the case against Trump, claiming that he would have to pay $354 million in damages for fraud at his businesses in New York City.

According to an Associated Press analysis of cases similar to Trump, the fine and punishment for by the former president would be an anomaly among 70 years of case history.

Of the cases reviewed, only 12 amounted to similar levels of punishment and in all such cases there were victims who suffered losses from fraud. This is not the case with Trumpโ€™s business dealings related to the case.

It’s excessive, throw it out. So is the “fee” to proceed with the appeal.

We are not a nation of laws.

We are a nation of cowardly, greedy, childish, arrogant Democrat lawyers.

Leftists have long opposed:

1st Amendment
2nd Amendment
4th Amendment
5th Amendment
10th Amendment

Leftists also believe that the 6th Amendment provides rights to the government.

Is it any surprise that Leftists also oppose the 8th Amendment?

With all the fraud and chicanery of Biden and all democrats on the national stage, there is no way in hell they are not wide open to similar charges in states like Texas, Oklahoma, Florida etc.
We need to start going after them in the same rabid manner.

Right now they have nothing to restrain their depredations.

The huge mistake that many Americans are making is that the US Constitution is pretty much nothing more than words on parchment that the DC communist cabal has rendered meaningless, especially when it comes to American patriots.

Yes, but that was before the fascist takeover. It’s a ‘rules based’ order now and the law does not apply, just like we do with other countries throughout the world.

I’m not an attorney, so I’m going to ask a potentially dumb question.

Can a third party sue the State of NY for deprivation of Constitutional rights, based on the impact of this case’s ruling harming everyone else?

I understand that normally a plaintiff would have to have standing here, but this is SO egregious so as to affect virtually anyone.

Don’t know the answer but to tack onto your post, it is hurting everyone because the judgement caused truckers to boycott ny, and businesses will very likely lesve ny because of the judgement- they dont eant to do business in a state that thinks that they can strong arm the business, and confiscate the. Business if it doesn’t pay a ridiculously high judgement agaisnt it.

Letitia James announced that she will see to it that the state will take Trumps buildings if he doesn’t pay the full. Amount

Who wants to do business in a state that is that aggressive towards business ? The judge, ent is affecting a great many people downstream too, so i would hope there is a way for thise affected to sue as well
