31,000 sounds far too low. But I will say the suggestion it has been a million sounds quite a bit high. 250,000 sounds more realistic and still a staggering figure.

I should have also added that there may be numerous injured troops, individuals who are no longer able to fight in the war on both sides. *That* number may be pretty large.
