SILVER SPRING, MD — A teenage girl died Friday while riding on the outside of a train car en route to a Silver Spring Metro station, the transit agency confirmed.
"We are deeply saddened to learn that a teenage girl lost her life this morning while riding outside of a train car en route to the Silver Spring station. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family," Metro said in a statement.
It's unclear what caused the girl to die or where authorities located her.

“ Last year, a 15-year-old from Silver Spring was found dead on the tracks near the Rhode Island Avenue station, according to the Washington Post. Investigators said he was filming himself on top of a Metro slain when he slipped and fell.”
The quest for TikTok fame. I guess he won’t be filming himself any more.

Why is it necessary to issue such fake, saccharine, emotive PR statements? no one is sad.
The statement that SHOULD have been issued was: "A person died today on Metro tracks by playing a dangerous stunt. To others considering this, don't be stupid and repeat this stunt."

Hate to see a kid lose their life in a silly manner like
this.
It’s never to late in life, to give a second thought to what
you are about to attempt, considering the potential downside,
and the absence of any real gain.
People sometimes do the damnedest things without any real
thought or consideration. Then lights out.
Don’t be that person.
In my foolish youth I hitchhiked from Illinois to California. In Denver I decided to ride a freight train. It was going to go to Ogden. I couldn’t find an open boxcar, so I chose an empty automobile carrying train car. There was no protection against the wind and it was very cold going over the Rocky Mountains (It was a spectacular view during the day though.) What kids might not know if they decide to ride a train car is that it violently bounces you up and down and shakes you back and forth. You might make it for a short distance but the odds are that if you are on top of the car you won’t stay there for long.
No doubt there will be a lawsuit.
That actually sounds like it might be fun, but you really
don’t know what you’ll run into. It’s taking a chance.
I’m not totally against them, but some are best done with
some company so you can team up to protect each other.

Traumatic bodily injury of some sort, I’d guess.
Chlorine in the gene pool. That’s harsh, I know but accurate.
My high school was next to a LIRR train yard with high voltage lines overhead. (You know where this is going.) At freshman orientation they told us not to go near the train yard. Every year, over summer vacation exactly one student would climb on top of a freight car and get electrocuted.
Like telling a baby not to put peas up his nose.

Way back in the day, hobos used to ‘ride the rails’. They’d take a plank of wood and put it between the two metal supports that ran the length of old box cars and ride underneath the boxcar. If they fell off of the plank...
Railroad indistry had a public service announcement, “Always expect a train” warning drivers to be careful around crossings lest they become a fatality. In Central Mass. someone was killed by a train when they were at a crossing, were blinded by the sun, and were hit by a train.
Beverly MA—teen killed by a train when crossing tracks and he couldn’t hear it
as his walkman was up too loud. Youtube video showed a train colliding with a car full of young people who decided to make it across the tracks despite train warning. You couldn’t see the collision but could hear it. The train’s engineer tried to stop but it wound up pushing the car quite a distance. Engineer got out to see the damage and came back, shaking his head. All dead.
And train surfing is beyond stupid.
