I don’t get why it’s ever been allowed.

The problem is there weren’t any laws written for this style of crime. So the courts are using laws written for tenents who didn’t pay their rent.

That’s a mistake.

They need to write new laws or set a precedent treating squatters as if they were burglars who broke into the home. It makes sense. How would police react if a thief caught in a home told the police he was living there. The police wouldn’t buy it.

Write new laws and the problem is solved.

Agreed. It’s always amazes me people don’t simply do what needs to be done. “Oh gee, I’ve paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for my house but this man has claimed he belongs there and so I guess I’ll have to let him stay”. NOT.

After you do that you can’t do anything else, without risking jail.
If that person gets a cold or if the idiot actually falls off his bike, there will be an investigation of the homeowner who reported the illegal breaking and entering!!

My mother ran into this situation in a home she owned...in a not-very-good subdivision. Illegal squatters refused to leave! Let's just say a late-night visit by someone changed the minds of everyone inside the house and it was empty by the next weekend.
