House Republican leadership is moving forward with a vote on a bipartisan bill that would force ByteDance to sell TikTok — or face a ban — next Wednesday, despite former President Donald Trump’s public opposition to the measure.
House Republican leaders huddled Friday morning to confirm the House would move forward on the TikTok bill with plans to bring it to the House floor under suspension, a maneuver that speeds the process and limits amendments to bills that can win a two-thirds majority vote, according to two sources familiar with the plans.
The legislation from Reps. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis. and Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., the leaders of the House Select Committee on China, would force Beijing-based ByteDance to sell off TikTok within 180 days or otherwise would effectively ban the app in the U.S. by penalizing app stores that host it.

There is much more to this story.
Remember how Trump banned TikTok and closed the Houston Chinese Consolate after 30 CCP military were caught using TikTok videos to identify participants, coordinate, and motivate the BLM and ANTIFA riots in many US cities.
If the Republicans vote in favor of banning TikTok, there's no point in voting for them this election.
I hate it because of auto-loading videos and stuff. Horrible site.
However, I wouldn’t ban it.
Politically speaking it’s a dumb move. They have millions of users.
That’s what this “ban” bill does. It says that TikTok will either divest from ByteDance or be banned.
Trump is being petty. TikTok that under the CCP control is a direct threat to the US.
And ban it they should. Still unbelievable that Trump now defends Chinese Tik-Tok.
Trump’s judgment is correct on this matter. There’s a lot of MAGA content on TikTok. You can’t really post that on Facebook. You’ll get banned for “hate speech”.
Don’t be surprised if Zuck is behind the whole thing.
The proof is what happened yesterday When TikTok phone app popped up a request to every user to contact their representative to vote against the bill. Along with a button to automatically place a call to their representative based on their phones location.
Can you imagine how dangerous it is to have an app that reaches tens of millions of user that can influence American politics in control of the CCP.
Seriously, if the so-called conservative side of this country can’t muster up enough common sense to recognize this threat. Then this country is in even bigger trouble than I thought.
Just because there is Trump content on it doesn’t change that it is Chinese and anti-American. I am shocked at the people defending Tik-Tok on FR now that Trump did a 180 on this.
Didn’t Trump want to do this when he was president?
Facebook is for old people. TikToo is for young people.
It shouldn’t be that hard to prove. The very first Google result:
TikTok’s original name was Musical. It was a short-form video platform focusing on lip-syncing and music-themed content, launched in Shanghai, China in 2014. In 2017, ByteDance, a Chinese internet technology company, acquired and merged it with its own short-form video app, Douyin, which was launched in September 2016.
Why is Trump opposed to this? He was calling for it when he was POTUS. Seems to me that this is yet another example of Biden being forced to adopt (or reimplement) Trump policies. Biden screwed up Afghanistan, he screwed up Ukraine, he screwed up Gaza, he screwed up the border, and he screwed up on the TikTok issue. Biden walked away from every Trump policy and plan just out of spite. And the results are evident. Trump can use this to gloat. He was right. Biden was wrong and has to back peddle at the last minute in the desperate attempt to salvage his presidency.
Even Wikipedia remarks on the Chinese origin of, and influence on, the TikTok platform.
Enough said.
Yes. And at least TikTok is doing that openly. Of course it is in their own economic self interest. But they are lobbying their users. Facebook, Google, Apple and the rest are much more subtle in influencing their users. TikTok also has that subtle algorithmic approach but are now forced to bring it out in the open. At least we can see how powerful their messaging can be. Overt or subtle their influence works. Maybe they should register as lobbyists.
