We’ve been hearing a lot about how Israel needs to show restraint, and Israel should have a proportionate response against terrorist attacks.

Is this a war or not?

If we are supposed to fight Wars based on a proportionate response ,then after Pearl Harbor, we should have bombed a couple of Japanese bases and never carried on the war as we did.

I don’t know if Israel has formally declared war as per international law on that subject. But if this is an actual War ,then Israel needs to do what they have to , to wipe out Hamas.

Absolutely. There is no proportional response in wartime, otherwise Japan can nuke us. The point of war is to force your enemy to your will. That’s what Israel is rightly doing right now. They need tell Biden to shut up and color.

Not sure when, but the U.S. stopped being conquerors, and started being “liberators” to pacify an enemy. We then go and help rebuild for the enemy. That only bleeds the treasury and that needs to stop. Future conflict needs to be brutal. Get in, get the job done, and get out. Let them rebuild from the ash heap because you can’t govern a populace who doesn’t want you there.

“proportionate response”

The proportion is a function of the ratio of the value of the attack compared to the collateral damage.

If you kill one ordinary fighter and 50 obvious innocents that would generally be considered disproportionate.

If the Eighth Air Force killed Adolf Hitler and 200 other Germans (half completely innocent) that should not be considered disproportionate.
