California Central Coast residents are losing overnight access to the only free beach campsite in the Big Sur area because visitors wouldn’t clean up after themselves.
On Thursday, the California Coastal Commission announced that overnight camping and campfires will be banned at San Carpoforo Beach, located off Highway 1 in northern San Luis Obispo County, for up to two years.
San Carpoforo Beach has no restrooms or trash cans, which became a major issue as the area got more popular. The report said, “visitors have sometimes left large amounts of trash, debris, and human waste at the beach.”
The camping ban is planned to allow the U.S. Forest Service to “reset” conditions at the beach and create a plan for visitor use moving forward.

Actually, considering the condition I’ve see FL beaches in when people have left for the day, it could well be visitors.
I cannot believe what slobs so many people are. And these were not slouch beaches with riff-raff. People simply could not be bothered to pick up after themselves. I can only imagine what the inside of their houses look like.

In the northeast, bicycle trails closed due to cyclists dropping their spandex just anywhere, in plain sight of landowners and taking a dump.
Snowmobile and ATV trails closed due to litter and off trail riding.
There are a whole lot of entitled people in the USA who were not raised properly.
The only way to re-educate them would involve extreme punishment.

So many bees in the camp, I couldn’t leave the tent.

I’m not sure. It was a public beach so it’s hard to know if it was vacationers or locals who just went there for the day.
Most of the people at the public beach were younger and often had kids, so I would guess not snowbirds. Besides, snowbirds are still old school enough to think of someone besides themselves.

It was a crappy beach anyway.
YEAH! Human waste belongs on the streets, front doorsteps of homes, buildings, in parks, on sidewalks- NOT on the beaches!
I lived on the CA central coast for 35 years and enjoyed San Carpo, Plaskett Creek, Limekilns, Andrew Molera SP, Fern Creek and a dozen other campgrounds.
I bet a dime to a dollar the people leaving the trash and human waste are “newcomers” who live in the Central Valley. 20 years ago it was pristine. In the last 10 years I stopped even going to Pismo Beach because of the undesirables from Fresno, Bakersfield, Modesto, Stockton and other CV towns who treat the place like their own private toilets.
California and Poop. They just go hand and hand by now. It’s bizarre.
I’ll bet no one is pooping on Babs Streisand’s private beach! Or Cher’s! Or Michael Moore’s!
