IAN BIRRELL: We're still stunningly complacent about the grave threat tyrant Putin presents to our way of life and democratic values
Daily Mail ^ | 18 March 2024 | IAN BIRRELL

Thirteen years ago, Vladimir Putin went to watch a martial arts tournament and, as he congratulated the winner of one heavyweight bout, the unthinkable happened: a large section of the crowd began booing and jeering their shocked leader.

It was the start of a rocky period for the Russian president as his blatantly rigged elections sparked the country's biggest protests since the collapse of the Soviet Union. 'We're not afraid any more,' a man told me at one huge demonstration in Moscow.

I heard anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny warn Putin that 'if the crooks and thieves continue trying to deceive us and lie to us, we'll take power ourselves'. I met other key opposition leaders, such as former deputy prime minister Boris Nemtsov.

Today Navalny is dead, 'murdered' in an Arctic penal colony a month ago, and Nemtsov was gunned down on a Moscow bridge just yards from the Kremlin in 2015.

But Putin, after 24 years in power, will secure a fifth term in office following a rubber-stamp election at the weekend after crushing all dissent in his country.

Good Morning! Yes, it's the Mail, but I don't see anything egregiously counterfactual. Lots of pictures for slow readers, and of course there's always the scantily clad women in the sidebar. Enjoy!

It's always good to start off the morning with a neocon tantrum. It sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Didn’t read past the headline. L

1. Nobody who posts these hysterical warnings ever explains what “our way of life” is.

2. The biggest threats to liberty and civil order in the U.S. today are holding positions in our own governments.

Regarding “our [UK] democratic values”... lessee, where ELSE have I heard that disingenuous line of crap??!?

— The UK would be well advised to stop worrying so much about UKR and Putin and concern themselves a helluva lot more about the flood of Sharia vermin they’re allowing to overrun their country! I don’t think that pondscum gives a rat’s ass about “democratic values”... unless one of those “values” is, as it seems to be, the total destruction of the Judeo-Christian worldview that at one time made the UK a world power to begin with.

I’m more worried about the grave threat tyrant Biden presents to our way of life and democratic values.

Seems to me, UK, that your enemy within is a far, far more clear and present danger to all you hold dear.

And, as Randolph Bourne once said...

“War is the health of the State.”

“...the grave threat tyrant Putin presents to our way of life...”

All the Brits care about is their daily “fudge packing” way of life while ignoring the Islamist taking over ole-Britannia. But it’s Putin that they worry about.

Globohomo’s are going to get what they deserve. /spit

Why worry about a Putin 4000 miles away when we have our own version in Washington DC?

Putin poses a grave threat to our way of life and democratic values?

Putin invades Ukraine with a few hundred thousand troops.

Biden invites an invasion of millions of military aged males into the United States.

Putin jails his political opponents.

Biden jails his political opponents; also trying to imprison his main opponent who is the Republican nominee in the general election.

Putin makes use of his secret police.

Biden turns the FBI into his secret police.

Putin uses the national media as his propaganda mouthpiece.

Biden uses the willing MSM as his propagannda mouthpiece.

Who is more of a danger to our way of life and democratic values?

What threat? Only Hillary and her neocon dullard fans still buy the Russia, Russia, Russia fantasy. When did Russia ever attack the U.S. or NATO? When did Russia ever economically sanction the West? Russia has withstood the West’s unprovoked proxy war and has been the rock that NATO crashed their alliance against but you can’t blame that on Putin. Reaching out for peace with NATO for twenty years is not threatening. But then again, for the DC neocons, the globohomos and their hinterland stooges “aggressive neutrality” is so terrifying it’s worth starting WWIII to stop.

I pretty much stopped reading there. Our way of life when someone goes on a rant about Putin generally means the corrupt deep state. And when it comes to values the democrat values they are talking about is a sham and a lie. They're trying to topple our republics.

“Blatantly rigged” meaning 43% of the ballots were not mail-in and there were no drop off Zuckerboxes.

“democratic values”

Importing millions of near-instant welfare recipients to flip elections totally trashes democracy.

Biden got into the Oval Office through illegality - voter subornation, illegal invasion & irregular naturalization, unlawful judicial election process tampering and election fraud.

Putin was well suited for KGB employment, but he is no threat to the USA. Some Americans are getting richer because of him.

“Nobody who posts these hysterical warnings ever explains what “our way of life” is.”

For those in the US, way of life is based upon having the tools to be able to do what they want. Most of the time, it is within the law, but many times it isn’t and other times it’s downright stupid. Putin is no hit and run threat. His threat has erased from that after the 60’s. They don’t want to die any more than we do. But the days of the soviet threat are gone.

Now the threat is trade and control. A perfect example is that the US gets approximately 10% of our natural gas from Russia. That’s a lot of heating fuel for many especially in our eastern states. We also get fertilizers, metal, and radioactive chemicals. Our trade with them has decreased but we still do $4.9B a years as of end 2023.

Different type of threat from bang bang poke poke.
