Ukraine loan gains traction in GOP
MSN / Politco ^ | March 19 | Story by Rachael Bade

Congressional Republicans are getting serious about one potential solution to the monthslong fight over Ukraine aid: packaging at least some of it as a loan.

The notion has been floating around for weeks, inspired by former president Donald Trump's recent statements that all U.S. foreign aid — not just to Ukraine — ought to be loaned, not given outright.

But the possibility is now being taken a lot more seriously. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) hinted at the new strategy Monday, posting online that he floated the prospect of a “no-interest, waivable loan” during a meeting in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The loan option is being taken seriously in the House, as well, where Ukraine aid has been stalled for months. Some of Ukraine’s Republican defenders have taken the idea and shopped it to Speaker Mike Johnson. The speaker, according to people familiar with the talks, told them to put a proposal together, test the waters with their GOP colleagues and then — if the conference approves — perhaps they’ll pursue it.

I suggest Trump bring this up at one of his rallies. I can guarantee him he will not get any applause and cheers for this stupid idea.

I like Trump but if he keeps this crap up he will lose me.

I suppose i will wait and see on this because it comes from Bloomberg.

Trump would ask for security, no?

What exactly would the security be and assuming he did, how would you go about collecting the security if Ukraine refused to pay.

In this case, Trump is being like a lot of politicians, they are trying to hide behind something, in this case funding the war in Ukraine by saying the money is a loan when everyone knows the money will never be paid back.

There is still a window but it is closing rapidly.

The evil people who drove this conflict will not let it end because it's an election year and they don't want the political fallout.

The world is paying a huge price for Biden's wag the dog conflict and desire to manufacture e "the Putin Price Hike " as a scape goat for his domestic policy failures.

How does Graham keep getting elected in SC?

For the same reason Cornyn, Bush and Crenshaw get elected in Texas. There is a small group of decent Rs, but most are globalists.

“Supporting Ukraine as much as possible to get a cease fire and negotiated end to the conflict is a great idea...”

I think Putin might bite even at this stage, but Ukraine has to make an offer.

Semantics

Call it a “ loan” when they know it will never be repaid…or has already been paid in almost a million dead and crippled Ukrainians

Unless their ultimate plan is to use seized Russian assets to repay Ukrainian debt…

40% of Ukraine’s farmland is already owned by 3 or so large international conglomerates. Including Monsanto.

The Ukes get to work as serfs, or keep the fields covered in rotting bodies and unexploded munitions

A loan to Ukraine?

When the Russia-Ukraine war started, Ukraine was the poorest country in Europe!

The USA is still waiting for our World War One European loans to be paid back!

Adjusted for inflation, our European allies owed the USA more than $200 billion in 1918.

In 1923, Germany went bankrupt, and stopped paying reparations to our European allies.

Our allies were using the German reparations to pay interest on their $200 billion USA debts.

Solution?

The USA started loaning money to Germany.

Germany used the 1923 USA loans to pay reparations to Europe.

Europe then used the 2023 USA-to-Germany loans to pay interest on Europe's 1918 loans!

You cannot make this stuff up, folks.

The Great Depression started in 1929, and that was the end of War loan repayments from everybody.

Well, it's sort of true. He didn't specifically say to loan Ukraine money. He said instead of giving money, loan money.

Here's that speech & you want to go to around the 38 minute mark

Hopefully when you click on the link it will be at the 38 minute mark.

I don’t support money of any kind going to Ukraine to support a war that is already lost IMO, but if you are going to do it then say so don’t try to BS the public by calling it a loan that everyone knows will never be paid back

So what happens when they don’t pay back ? Do we foreclose on them
———-
Vlad is already “ foreclosing “ Ukraine. However, this deal stinks.Ukraine has already defaulted on many “ loans “, most notably the $$$ Billions they received after the Maidan event.

When do people wake and realize they are corrupt, and have no intentions of repaying anything. Aside from that, their country has no means of repaying- especially with the Russian Donbass gone- the western half has little to no revenue generation….destroyed infrastructure, depleted population (now down to 22 million), manufacturing capacity non existent,….insane rebuilding costs, the list is long.

The assets in question are deposits in western financial institutions and they are already frozen by the EU and various countries. There is already a process being worked out in the EU to give Ukraine the interest on these assets.
