There’s lots of land in Canada. Not everyone can live in Toronto and Vancouver. Why not actually develop the land? I know most of it is inhospitable but there’s still plenty of land left near U.S. border that they can develop. They have less people than the state of California. So I’m not sure what’s the problem is.

Because jobs can disappear and one doesn’t want to pay a real estate commission when one loses a job.

Technical people shun areas without multiple employers needing their skills.

Doctors don’t want to live in Nothingburgs.
