The funny part is, they are trying to put a fence around themselves, at least financially. CA is trying to impose ongoing taxes on residents that move to another state.

Supposedly, Shohei Ohtani’s contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers enables him to leave CA and then get paid, avoiding CA taxes. CA may be able to change their tax code and bang him. The next guy will avoid CA altogether
