But some lefty got rich so it’s all good.
What is behind the hatred of wind power? Here in NJ it is a combination of NIMBYs and WEF conspiracy kooks. Oppose only if government funded. If not, keep building those windmills.
But it’s like FREE, man!....................
It’s not wind power per se, it’s the offshore that bothers people. And, for many reasons.
Wonder how much the 30 million acres off the LA/TX gulf coast is gonna blossom to. Then a CAT 5 (glowbull warming you know) will saunter through...............
................and they look so nice.
I'm somewhat agree. When my wife and I visit on or near the ocean coasts, I sometimes think that if I lived there I'd probably set up a few pico wind turbines for my home to reduce my power bill. But that's from a free market perspective. Not the govt mandated or govt subsidized perspective like the Dims push it.
In addition to the cost of the periodic output of power to consumers, the consumers will also be hit with a multitude of added charges on their bills for transmission, distribution, metering, billing, ancillary services, etc.
Utilities were 100% on board for global warming, as they gained subsidized added capacity, to keep those meters turning........ROFL
Its because they would not be built without government subsidies. They are very maintenance heavy. Then the blades wear out after a certain lifespan and they bury them in the ground.
Plus, they only generate electricity when the winds are blowing between 15-30 MPH.
Too high, and they turn off. Too low, and they don’t turn.
I owned stock in Vestas Wind Systems out of Denmark a while back. It doubled and I sold it.
People who buy beachfront property don’t control the ocean and should be told to shove it for anything not on their property. Again, I am opposed to government subsidizing wind power (or petroleum production for that matter), but the wind is there, we should use it to put advantages and the NIMBYS can move if they are not happy.
Offshore might be the -best- idea for wind power, for that mitigates many of the aesthetic objections, but the economic and maintenance issues still remain. The article itself highlighted some economic factors (including that new geothermal techniques are markedly cheaper and provide 24/7 power), but there’s efficiency issues and just the logistics of doing maintenance 30+ miles off shore is a bit daunting.
There’s also the problem of spacing: you can’t pack in these giant turbines like you would solar panels, for instance: there’s a ‘prop wash’ issue where the wind is disrupted coming off each turbine location. So if you want a lot of energy yield — like NY apparently does — then miles of real estate (or ocean estate) is needed... which only adds to the problems of logistics.
Gas is the way to go...especially in NYS...
Offshore oil rigs are magnets for every type of marine life. They produce great fishing opportunities. I haven’t heard anything about offshore wind except it kills whales in the process.
EC
So VERY TRUE! As usual, another SCAM to STEAL tax payer DOLLARS and put MONEY in the pockets of those that DEVELOPED and PERPETRATED it!
Without corporate welfare and mandates from government, no one would build these massive things. It is ALL about extracting money from customers and giving it to the cronies who invented the scheme. .
Offshore wind power is an insane concept.
The cost to set up and maintain offshore wind turbines is astronomical and the marine environment is death to wind turbines
They should burn oil from all the whales they’re killing with these things
