HOUSTON — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Tuesday agreed to pay nearly $300,000 in restitution under a deal that ends criminal securities fraud charges that have shadowed the Republican since he took office nearly a decade ago.

The announcement by special prosecutors in a Houston courtroom came less than three weeks before Paxton was set to stand trial on felony charges that carried a possible prison sentence if convicted. It was the closest Paxton - who was indicted in 2015 - has ever come to trial over accusations that he duped investors in a tech startup near Dallas.

Under the 18-month pre-trial agreement, the special prosecutors in the case would drop three felony counts against Paxton. As part of the deal, Paxton must pay full restitution to victims and must also complete 100 hours of community service and 15 hours of legal ethics education.

Does it mention life in prison at the link? Because all it said in your post was the possibility of prison.

Yes it does below the fold. I couldn’t copy/paste it as it kicked me out. They have a funny paywall which we must respect

Oh okay, just wondering where that had come from. 🤣

That is ridiculous. Murders get off with lighter sentences anymore.

It’s unlikely I think he’s going after Cornyn and cannot do both

I think he would take corny out. I know I’d vote for Paxton again.

I’d love to have Paxton in the Senate.

He should be able to kick Corny to the curb.

It really would be amazing (and fun/interesting).

I think he’s leaning that way considering his comments to Tucker a while back and the shots he takes at the arch RINO.

It’s happening I think...

It’s amazing, isn’t it? Democrats make millions upon millions investing in areas where they know the government is going to be spending billions in pork and nothing ever happens to them. The law is only for Republicans.

I think Cornrow is bowing out and not running again. If Paxton doesn’t run for governor I’ll sure vote for him for the Senate.

Let’s see if he actually pays the fine. He still has not paid the former office workers he fired because they had ethical misgivings about what he was asking them to do. Which ultimately led to his impeachment after he agreed to pay the whistleblowers a settlement , then instead of paying them off claimed the office wasn’t budgeted for the settlement and then went and asked for the settlement money from the House. Causing his own impeachment because he should have had the funds. He wins all sorts of court cases all the time he says but when it comes to paying for things, seems he never has the dosh.

He’s a carpetbagger scumbag and I can’t believe so many turn a blind eye to his adultery because he says the right key phrases.

Let me guess. You got that information from Dade Phelan. You know, the stuff where no evidence was produced and no cross examination of the claims was allowed. That info?

Paxton was impeached because he was about to crack down on voter fraud and Phalen had orders to stop it.
