'DEI' to Blame for Baltimore Key Bridge Tragedy, According to Utah Republican
Western Journal ^ | March 26, 2024 | Jack Davis

A Republican candidate for governor of Utah has linked diversity, equity, and inclusion to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore.

The bridge collapsed early Tuesday after the cargo ship Dali drifted into a bridge support.

Among the reactions that looked past the immediate cause, state Rep. Phil Lyman appeared to indicate that the makeup of the commissioners for the Port of Baltimore was a factor in the incident.

Lyman is challenging Gov. Spencer Cox for the Republican nomination...

This is what happens when you have Governors who prioritize diversity over the wellbeing and security of citizens,” Lyman said

...

DEI = DIE

...

commissioner Karenthia A. Barber, who is black, “knows nothing about Ports, but she is a ‘diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) auditor and consultant.

...

Lyman was not alone in linking DEI to the collapse.

“DEI did this,” former Florida Republican state Rep. Anthony Sabatini

...

the last inspection of the bridge took place in May 2022. At the time, the bridge scored a grade of six out of nine, which is passing but is considered “fair.”

The bridge was rated “fair” since 2008.

I’ve heard that the shipping line may have waved the tugs to save money.

As with most stories these days, it’ll take at least a week or two for accurate details as to what really happened......but saving money by not using tug boats is certainly plausible.

Even if no one died, it’s still dumb to say anything like this until facts are in. Not everything needs an instant analysis and reaction.

“It’s an election year.”

And he’s running in Utah, so it’s a PERFECT thing to say there, regardless of whether it somehow is not a factor (really doubt it, considering the number of screwups that have to occur for the bridge to go down).

If we want to win, we have to play by the rules set by the DEMOCRATS, and they sure as hell would go, and have, gone after Republicans for having unqualified people in high positions in similar circumstances (as I mentioned above), REGARDLESS of whether they were at fault in any way.

Baltimore, and other cities, should build multiple protective, large concrete islands to protect their bridges - like Tampa did after their first bridge was hit.

“”Was the pilot a diversity hire or someone’s nephew ?””

That is one dumb question. Since when does a harbor pilot get to control a ship’s engine?

That’s also overlooking the fact that had the pilot not been onboard and radioed a May Day - that bridge would have continued to allow traffic across it. That credit is his and I’m sure in spite of the criticism here, it was welcomed by many who could have been on it.

The port pilot was aboard but not responsible for engine malfunction..............

It may be “knee jerk” but the mayor was ordering the media to stop showing the bridge collapse on TV. It’s an embarrassment to his crap hole city, but I feel something else is up. A monstrous level of incompetence other than just the crew and the ship.

“ If only the government had almost $3T in spending for shovel ready infrastructure projects this could have all been avoide.”

I heard yesterday that the infrastructure bill had more money for electric buses than upgrading port infrastructure.

I imagine there are lots of bridges in America that would fail the 100 thousand ton ship-slamming-into-them test.

Ships chief literally controls the engine

And propulsion issue can be anything from engine to the prop and all in between failure

Who controls speed and direction once pilots onboard is a bone of contention I’ve witnessed personally

Power failure approaching bridge pilings id imagine the captain would’ve assumed control over everything trying to correct the calamity

I think the skyway bridge hit it was mostly blamed on the pilot and he blamed a squall

If this latest incident happened a bit further up channel they perhaps could have anchored in the 50 foot depth

The New Orleans rudder loss debacle decades ago was catastrophic too and no remedy without a tug very near

Fast current and very deep river

The shipping company had some DIE functionaries in its offices, but it’s a bit of a stretch to link this crash to it.

The public will likely never know the true story. There are layers of lawyers, politicians and insurance companies who will feed the narrative.

I'm not really sure what port management has to do with a power failure on a ship. That seems more like a maintenance issue or just a really badly timed failure of some component.

I'm no fan of D.I.E., but I don't know if it can be blamed for this.

When a ship loses its steering, which way it goes depends on the position of the rudder. Even were the rudder perfectly midship, the stern would tend to set in one direction due the pitch on the lower blades of the propeller.

I studied the plot that is online and at no point does the ship’s course alter by more than about 15 degrees.

I am a retired Master Mariner (all oceans) with 34 years of sea experience, and, later, ship management.

And given that, the chance that the narrative accurately reflects reality asymptotically approaches zero.

All part of the plan. Border invasion, climate change, societal breakdown.

Bingo!

We desperately need more than a few R politicians with the courage to effectively counter, not just oppose, the Leftist machine and the nonstop biased MSM.
