There is no way of saying that Tuesday’s special election in Alabama was in any way a positive for Republicans.
Democrat Marilyn Lands defeated Republican nominee Madison, Alabama, city councilman Teddy Powell by a 62%-38% blowout margin, an unexpected outcome in a seat only recently considered competitive.
For the first time since 2002, Democrats gained a seat on Republicans in the Alabama Legislature, where Republicans currently have a supermajority in both chambers.
What happened?
On Wednesday, national media are heralding the outcome and tying it to Alabama’s strict abortion ban passed by the legislature in 2019 and a recent Alabama Supreme Court ruling that granted embryos created during in vitro fertilization (IVF) personhood for the sake of civil matters considered by the state’s judiciary.

As I and others have noted on FR, any election where killing babies is on the ballot, Republicans will lose. Here, more so when the Republican candidate is not a strong candidate and the party doesn't adapt to new technology, strategies, and voting methods.

I really think it’s underestimating the support for Roe even in very red states. It was thought these red states would be a firewall against abortion. It mostly hasn’t worked out that way.
What Republicans should be doing is encourage this among Republicans. Further, work on the laws to strengthen integrity of those mail-in votes. Clean up the voter rolls. Maybe even canvas the voter rolls outing the dead voters, the houses with multiple voters, the bad addresses, and so forth. Have that ready and when those votes are received, challenge them with evidence.

I think they’re using abortion is their red herring to cover up cheating via ballot harvesting. There’s no way in hell with Biden and company having some of the lowest approval ratings, they’re winning everything. Almost 80% of the country says it’s heading in a bad direction, but they’re voting for more of it? Nope—abortion is a convenient excuse as cover.

Its an unfortunate position for GOP candidates who doom their prospects when the job they seek has nothing to do with abortion. They should just STFU about it unless they are seeking a Supreme Court appointment or a lgislative position in a state likely to ban it.

My right to live IS NOT “up to the ELECTED REPRESENTIVES of the States” you retard. Our constitution does not provide for a right to life for anyone, that was assumed and never put in the constitution, so when you have scum sucking scum bag evil democrats in charge we are all screwed.
Legislating the right to life or abortion has always been available to the Congress without any interference from the good ole constitution cause the wig wearers never bothered to put that in there.
