RFK Jr.’s Progressive VP Pick Nicole Shanahan Will Doom Biden’s Re-Election
New York Post ^ | March 27, 2024 | Paul du Quenoy

As President Biden struggles to improve in the polls, Democrats are increasingly worried that third-party candidates will swing the election to former President Donald Trump.

As of Monday, per RealClearPolitics polling averages, Trump held a popular-vote lead of 1.7% in a hypothetical one-on-one rematch.

Trump’s advantage, however, rose to 2.3% in the current five-way race, which includes Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independents Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy is by far the greatest potential spoiler, drawing an average of 9.9% of the overall vote.

I don’t understand why people vote third party. The next president will be either Trump or Biden, unless the Dems swap him out before November. When I vote, I vote for someone I hope will win and who has a chance of winning, not someone I know doesn’t have a snowball’s chance.

Kennedy is a liberal Democrat. The Covid vaccine and big Pharma, is a single-issue appeal to Republicans, and that one issue has a lot of appeal. Every Presidential election, there is always a small percent of each party that will not back their party's candidate. Other than that, he's another solid Democrat.

Third party Presidential candidates draw evenly disaffected voters evenly from both parties, which is what happened with Anderson and Perot in 1980 and 1992 respectively. Then after the election, the losers blame the third parties for their loss.

The press and political pundit class act like third parties are important when they have no real influence. If third parties were a factor in US politics, they would win elections and make policy and legislation. They don't. Look at Sanders, he is a solid Democrat despite the independent/socialist label.

RFK Jr had his flash in the pan, what is happening now is his fizzling out.

If the polls are to be believed, rfk being in the race gives 45 a slight increase percentage-wise.

Check out announcement on X, comments are almost universally negative. Adding her to the ticket appears to have pushed number of his supporters Trump.

That’s an excellent point.

But they would likely do one thing: Go after us in any and all ways possible, including banking/finances/SS/ pensions, etc with a vengeance.

“It may strip a few voters away, but Trump hate will rule all. The anti-Trumpers are borderline lunatics, my in-laws included.”

Perhaps so, but still, the anti-Trumpers only have to vote against Trump, of which they now have 4 choices (’Biden’, Kennedy, West, Stein) - while the Trump dingbats, like myself, will ONLY vote for Trump.

And now that Kennedy has aligned with a flaming Leftist, with BILLIONS in cash, it is really, really, bad news for the Democrats.

And Shanahan thinks she is a female Kennedy in that she became a billionaire by sleeping with billionaires.

Harris did the same thing. Now she's the VPOTUS.

I’m skeptical. How dem/independent voters have any idea who Nicole Shanahan is?

Had he not abruptly left the race in 1992 and then re-entered, enough people might have elected Ross Perot.

I don't see anyone of Perot's character and charisma and charm anywhere now, but it's altogether possible that a "third party" candidate could win the presidency in the future.

In many ways Perot paved the way for Trump. Because Trump pretty much ran as an outsider without much support from the Republican machine. Trump practically ran as a third party candidate. He just was smart enough to figure out how to do it by turning the system's resources against itself.

I’m simply saying that Biden is doing what the Moderate Liberal Capitalist Business Elites want he ain’t an actual member like the former banker President Emmanuel Macron in France.

Biden pretends to be on the side of Israel and the Palestinians at the same time.

Heck Joe tried to overthrow Netanyahu for trying to reform Israel’s judiciary that was hurting Netanyahu’s allies on the Right in Israel preventing their policies from becoming law.

Perot was an exception. George Wallace was another one. Otherwise, third parties genreally exist as a vehicle for ideas. I agree with you: there is no one of the calibre of Perot and there hasn’t been since Perot. I agree with you about Trump third-partying the GOP. And I am open to the possibility of a third party win in the future. One of the major parties going away might be healthy for the country. But most of the time a third-party vote for someone who has no chance of winning (e.g. Kennedy, No Labels, etc.), just
to hurt one of the major nominees, is a wasted vote in my opinion. If I don’t want Trump, I’ll vote for Biden, and vice versa. That’s where the rubber hits the road.

The word “progressive” is a major turnoff for the wobbly “probably for Trump” voters.

Attracts the Jill Stein types, however, the few of them around.

RFK Jr is behind the times if he thinks “There. I did it. An affirmative action female checked off. Do I get a prize?”
Most people say “No.”

If the polls are to be believed, rfk being in the race gives 45 a slight increase percentage-wise.

Mathematically, the more choices the Never Trumpers have, the better. Trump supporters have one choice, and will get all of their votes in one candidate.

I posit that this is nothing more than to keep a large (yet disaffected) bloc of the Democrat Party, from either outright defecting to Trump, or staying home in November, and not voting for anyone.

The Party is made up of many factions, including Never-Trumpers, BernieBot Socialist holdovers, RFK,Jr.-voted-for-his-Daddy Old Liberals/Democrats, Abortion-at-any-Cost "Feminists", the 95%+ black voting bloc, media conglomerates , Big Tech, Big Pharma, et al.

These blocs cover the political spectrum: hairy smelly always vote Democrat to the the almost-awake-almost-ready-kinda-sorta blacks and Gen Zers teetering on the edge of conservatism (even if it's wallet-conservatism).

If the Democrat Party believes in 2024 that they can't (again) outright steal the election, better to have the fig leaf of a cohesive Party Machine at the State, Congressional and Judicial levels, ready to get in the way, ready to get violent (again), and ready to keep trying to Get Trump.

Useful Idiots, Fellow Travelers, bodies, beating hearts, allies and enemies alike come and go, but Party "unity" is Everything.

“I don’t know why any Republican would vote for him. Yet, he seems to be going for Republican support, and getting more of it than Dems.”

That’s likely because during the period he was running in the Dem primary, a lot of conservative media organizations were giving him a lot of air time to try to annoy / disrupt Biden. After he left the primary race, this backfired as a lot of false credibility was built with parts of the conservative base. Witness the number of people on here who promote him as an “advocate of free speech” when he has in fact one of the most notorious and prominent advocates of censorship:
