From the outside, Johannesburg does not look like it is doing well.
Roads littered with potholes. Broken traffic lights not repaired for months. Rotting rubbish in the streets.
But from the inside, the scale of the problems facing the biggest city in South Africa and the richest and most industrialised in the continent is even worse.
From taps regularly running dry to daily four-hour power cuts – known locally as load shedding – life for many people in Jo’burg has declined dramatically.
The decline of southern suburb Forest Hills is a case in point.
Previously dominated by poorer white people, in recent decades it has become more mixed as black people sought to move out of the city’s apartheid-era townships.
“Although never wealthy, things used to at least work [around here],” Stuart Marais, a longtime resident and local city councillor, told The Telegraph.
“Traffic signals are regularly vandalised and are not repaired in under six to eight months. Grass is growing into our roads which haven’t been fixed for decades,” said the 63-year-old. “Broken cars lie around and many residents put their rubbish out onto the streets and it lies there rotting.”
It was “far too dangerous” to walk around at night, he said. “The decay in this part of Johannesburg is massive.”
Mr Marais says the blame lies squarely with the municipality, where the African National Congress hold the most seats.

So far, the ANC is not that stupid. They're making money. So they let the Whites run the show for now (but from behind the scenes). Julius Malema is a radical, he wants Economic Freedom Fighters to seize land in South Africa, similar to what you saw in Zimbabwe.
That is not true. When the Dutch first arrived in SA, they found the place depopulated. People are often surprised to learn that, prior to the Nineteenth Century, the whole black population of Africa was restricted to a narrow band about the equator. The Dutch WERE the first large migration to the region. The Zulus didn't reach south until well after white settlement.

Cape Town, yes which is just off the Cape of Good Hope. There were nobody there except for nomadic tribes such as the Khosian. Bantu tribes had already settled in the northern part of South Africa before the Dutch arrived.

Culture does not come into existence by a miracle.
It reflects the values of the people who create it.
In theory you would think there could be at least one country in Africa—or one black run city in America—that could enhance civilization instead of destroying it.
All it would take is one charismatic black leader who insisted on it—has not happened yet.
Those whites in SA that clamored for the end of apartheid will end up like the whites that helped the blacks in Haiti.
They bowed to the pressure to allow non citizens to vote and control the country. There was a reason for keeping tribes apart. For 1, they fight and hate each other. Number 2, they were as the migrant workers of the US were. Living in their own lands, Apartheid, meaning apart from. They served a purpose, which was labor. The country had a majority opinion, that they wanted to remain stable, and without the blacks. Communism has no bigger hold on any race other than blacks.
Just like in the US, the hard working people built a great country, then we turn it over to Communists. They have been tearing into the country since the early 1900’s. They have a big foothold now, the underclass created by Socialism, and large corporations and entities who both feed and feed off of HUGE Government.

I used to go to Acapulco several times a year. Loved the Princess Hotel, golf, beach, downtown. Haven’t been in 20 years.

The San Fernando Valley is old 1960-70’s apartments that have been updated in some cases, mostly not. Now that most of those residents have either died, in a home or fled to red states or OC in the 80-90’s.
The new residents will eventually morph into a prehistoric shanty town. Sad. But inevitable.
I haven’t noted Bono, Springsteen or Mellenkamp blathering about Sun City recently. Their goal was to fix the “problem” and let the nation fall into a pit.
They succeeded.
san fernando valley had a lot of farm/ranch land in the 40’s-50’s and walnut trees, i was born and raise there in the 50’s and 60’s.
