Job growth surged in March, as employers added 303,000 positions and the unemployment rate edged down, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.
Why it matters: The U.S. labor market has proved remarkably resilient over the last year, as employers keep seeking workers despite a bumpy economic environment. The latest numbers affirm that strength, handily beating analysts' forecasts.
By the numbers: The jobless rate fell as more people entered the work force — a good sign for growth potential.
The labor force participation rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 62.7%. Average hourly earnings were up 0.3%, and are up 4.1% over the last year. The biggest categories of job gains were health care (up 81,300 jobs) and government (up 71,000). Zoom out: Revisions pushed January and February's already-strong job growth numbers higher yet, by 22,000 additional positions.

600,000 Part Time jobs added. Full Time jobs fell.
And 71 thousand of them are government jobs the old democrat scam tossing out more bait for votes.
Does anybody ever believe this tripe? I didn’t think the BLS was keeping track of Door-Dash driver additions.
You’re correct-—180,000 of those jobs are healthcare, government and construction (probably government contracts).
Also, my wife and I would be considered “jobs gained” as we are forced to work two jobs. More and more people are working 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. Right now, our business is the worst I have ever seen it so I believe this is all BS!
Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 303,000 in March, higher than the average monthly
gain of 231,000 over the prior 12 months. In March, job gains occurred in health care,
government, and construction. (See table B-1.)
Health care added 72,000 jobs in March, above the average monthly gain of 60,000 over the
prior 12 months. In March, job growth continued in ambulatory health care services (+28,000),
hospitals (+27,000), and nursing and residential care facilities (+18,000).
In March, employment in government increased by 71,000, higher than the average monthly gain
of 54,000 over the prior 12 months. Over the month, employment increased in local government
(+49,000) and federal government (+9,000).
I don’t buy this at all. Bogus numbers with most hirings, if not all, being illegal immigrants, while patriotic Americans lose their jobs in droves.
EXACTLY
99 cent stores just closed EVERY SINGLE ONE.
“People working multiple part time jobs to feed the family.....”
Did that in the 70’s, 80’s 90’s, nothing new.
99 Cent stores just closed all 371 locations.
Mark to read later. I keep hearing illegals are the ones being hired.
Yup, and 14,000 people just lost their jobs. Not to worry. They’ll find work in this “robust” economy.
all stay at home government jobs
If you’re planning on a recession-proof career, healthcare is where you want to be.
Too late for that-—I’m 56 and too old to make a change from sales to healthcare.
According to the A9, we lost about 6,000 full time jobs, and gained about 691,000 part time jobs with an increase of about 216,000 multiple job holders. In all fairness it looks like a net gain, but they’re not the full time jobs with benefits that we could get before we offshored our workforce.
