Same here in Seattle.
HOWEVER. On the west coast the hard rock forming the mountains keeps the vibrations fairly local. Out east it is mostly sedimentary rocks that are a little bit softer so the vibrations can travel MUCH farther. (As noted by this recent small quake felt in Albany, Long Island, etc.)
That is why the New Madrid fault zone in Missouri is such a concern. The magnitude ~7.5 quake in the early 1800’s damaged chimneys in NY city. Most of the oil pipelines that run from Texas to the NE would be disrupted.
Northern Minnesota gets small earthquakes once in awhile.
It is from the granitic rock rebounding upwards due to the massive weight of the glaciers (10,000 years ago) not being on it anymore. True story!

Here in Gravesend Brooklyn along with the shaking there was a series of steady, rhythmic pounding sounds, as if there were heavy equipment digging on the street outside.
Which is ironic for me because there actually is heavy equipment parked outside my window in preparation for the start of road construction. I looked out my window just to check—all the machinery was idle.
I thought I knew the feel of an earthquake, having lived in northern and central California 20-years, but this felt different.
There is also the Wabash Valley seismic zone in southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois. There have been several earthquakes around 5.0 during the last several decades. Some researchers think the area is capable of generating a 7.0 earthquake..

My earthquake detector at the hotel that night was a heavy glass ashtray balance on the top of a glass beer bottle. Most of the door jambs were sprung so opening doors was difficult so my escape route was the open window on the second floor :0)
