Pro-life conservatives are 'disappointed' in Trump's new abortion policy, but stick by him: 'only one option'

Conservative groups backing former president Donald Trump in his re-election bid say they are "deeply disappointed" with his official position on abortion unveiled Monday, but it won't deter their support in November.

The former president and presumptive GOP nominee in a video posted on Truth Social Monday morning said he cemented his position on the controversial issue, saying that abortion access should be a states’ issue and didn’t endorse a national, federal limitation – like a 15-week ban.

Pro-life interest groups who have endorsed Trump expressed disappointment at his announcement, but it appears unlikely to sway their support in consideration of Trump’s overall stance compared to Biden’s extreme abortion policy.

"The reality of a stark choice between President Biden who supports abortion: any number, any reason, up until birth, all paid for by the taxpayer and President Trump: who gave us three Constitutionalist justices, 220 lower court judges, appointees who support life and the overturn of Roe v. Wade has my endorsement and support in November for President," said Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America (CWA), who said she "favors federal limits on abortion."

Babies are GOD’S Creation . . . not man’s. Known by God BEFORE CONCEPTION. President Trump definitely lacks wisdom on this one.

Proverbs 9:10: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.”
Proverbs 8:13: “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil.”
Ecclesiastes 12:13: “Fear God and keep his commandments.” (How about #6 . . . thou shalt not murder)

However, today, he should be applauded for finally appearing to settle on the right plan going forward...

So what makes you think he won't change his mind yet again, depending on whatever direction the political winds are blowing?

But Trump won’t say his own moral viewpoint.

Who cares what his view is on the issue? Trump keeps his promises and, by putting judges on SCOTUS that overturned Roe, did more for the pro-life movement than any single person since Roe was enacted.

The federalizing of abortion was one of the left’s greatest strategic victories. How many radical leftists Reps. and Senators defeated conservatives on this issue alone, over the years? Trump is right to leave it to the states, now that his SC has returned the issue to them.

Trump did what needed to be done. He took the handcuffs off of pro-lifers. Now it’s up to them to continue the fight at the state level, not take a step backwards. Re-federalizing abortion will backfire on the pro-life movement if it takes place. It would ultimately hurt the country and hurt their cause.

If pro-life activists want to introduce federal abortion legislation, they’d be better off focusing on late-late-term abortions and after-term “abortions”.

Doesn’t Trumps position that abortion is not a federal issue and should be left for he states to decide, concur with that of SCOTUS?

Military medical policy, allowing soldiers time off for abortions and foreign spending, foreign aid, and allocation of funds to states all require a federal policy on abortion.

I am pro-life. However I think this is the correct position.

First of all conservatives have said for decades that the abortion issue was intended to be decided at the state level. Roe-Wade largely blocked that except for late term abortions. I don’t see how we spent all this time complaining about Roe-Wade usurping the ability of states to decide their own abortion laws and then try to override the states.

Second, any bill at the federal level could not possibly pass, because it would be filibustered in the Senate. So what’s the point? Just to say “hooray for us” or something?

Finally, Trump backing a federal abortion law could throw the election to Biden.

So what makes you think he won't change his mind yet again, depending on whatever direction the political winds are blowing?

The mere (perhaps fruitless) hope that it might actually be an indication that Trump is somewhat finding his way, and every decision by him won’t be a bad one, as I must say there have not been many I agreed with over the last 2 years, and his original plan to re-implement federal control of abortion was outrageous.

I certainly won’t have blind hope this will be his final position on it, but I am thankful for it nonetheless, and hope it’s part of a new positive trend. I found his decision to attend the funeral of the slain NYC cop as another rare but positive step, that showed some ability to consider something other than his own personal situation and power. This is hopefully another example of that, as his propensity to expand federal government power is something that should be monitored closely.

Hope that answers your question, but feel free to reply. Thanks.

He was left before. Now he is pro abort, big pharma jab, anti 2A bumpstock banner, global lockdowner WHO clown.
No pro lifer is voting for him that truly believes in this.
Some states are aborting after birth thanks to the overturning of roe.
That’s like saying all murder should be returned to the states.
Men who support abortion: these people will euthanize you in less than a heartbeat…. They are doing it in many countries.
Life either matters or it does not.

Former President Donald J. Trump has told advisers and allies that he likes the idea of a 16-week national abortion ban with three exceptions, in cases of rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother, according to two people with direct knowledge of Mr. Trump’s deliberations.
You did not highlight the correct part (which indicates it’s complete hearsay), and did not state that this is an opinion piece by the New York Slimes.

Uhh, the Supreme Court has already ruled on this, that it’s a States issue, and he is merely following their lead. I’m Pro Life but acknowledge the necessity for exceptions in the event of rape, incest or maternal health. We’re basically where we were in 1970, pre-Roe. Democrats are trying to undermine Trump and run on a irreversible issue already adjudicated.

There is no Constitutional authority for the Federal government to either ban or protect abortion.

I abhor abortion and I support the Constitution, and I am not conflicted whatsoever in those beliefs.

The left is not interested in “exceptions”, remember. They’ll use such “exceptions”, where they are actually realistic (not that I’ve heard of any), as talking points and a slippery slope back towards their goal of universal baby murder.

Agree. Abortion, at any stage makes me want to puke, but it’s been accepted practice in this country for fifty years. With the current moral standards of our underclasses, if it’s outlawed outright with no ability for the states to modify the ban-—not only will we lose every election going forward, but on the practical side, what are you going to do with all the Dindonuffins?

I am strongly pro-life. I am also strongly pro-Constitution. The American people must have the final say on abortion, not the Government or its courts.

We’re not voting for a Pastor in Chief. Abortion is a huge issue for many women — including many Christian women. What good will it do to turn Trump into a strict pastor but lose the White House and the country as a result?

I agree!! It is a issue of the states. I was only responding to the fact that I disagree with him saying he would choose a 15 week ban... on that I don’t agree.
I am VERY PRO TRUMP.... very!!!!
