Pro-life conservatives are 'disappointed' in Trump's new abortion policy, but stick by him: 'only one option'

Conservative groups backing former president Donald Trump in his re-election bid say they are "deeply disappointed" with his official position on abortion unveiled Monday, but it won't deter their support in November.

The former president and presumptive GOP nominee in a video posted on Truth Social Monday morning said he cemented his position on the controversial issue, saying that abortion access should be a states’ issue and didn’t endorse a national, federal limitation – like a 15-week ban.

Pro-life interest groups who have endorsed Trump expressed disappointment at his announcement, but it appears unlikely to sway their support in consideration of Trump’s overall stance compared to Biden’s extreme abortion policy.

"The reality of a stark choice between President Biden who supports abortion: any number, any reason, up until birth, all paid for by the taxpayer and President Trump: who gave us three Constitutionalist justices, 220 lower court judges, appointees who support life and the overturn of Roe v. Wade has my endorsement and support in November for President," said Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America (CWA), who said she "favors federal limits on abortion."

Reagan proved you can be stronger on pro-life than Trump. He got a LANDSLIDE in 1984.

He should say leave it to the states and I would support banning it in Florida.

That’s an easy play and one that has been proven to work. You clearly have no connection to pro-life activism. If you did, you would be fine stating the truth that Trump fell short, but also saying that there is no alternative.

“ Reagan said he wanted to ban it at the state level.”

A) Reagan is dead.
B) He did nothing except make speeches.

I always had contempt for politicians who led on our wonderful pro-life folks by making it seem as if overturning Roe v. Wade would or could end abortion. That was never true, and a lot of them knew they were lying when they said that.

It wasn’t “pro-life” to overturn Roe - it was pro-Constitution and pro-self government. The People want abortions and they will crush any politician or party that seems against it.

“President Trump got it right......
<><>The USSC itself ruled via Dobbs
<><>the Constitution doesn’t give rights to the federal govt to intervene in the decision;
<><>that’s already been left to the states.”

Agreed

If you want to change things, convince your fellow citizens.
Right now, half the country disagrees.

One fight at a time.
Don’t pull the Miss Lindsey crapola again.

“”he cemented his position on the controversial issue, saying that abortion access should be a states’ issue and didn’t endorse a national, federal limitation””

IMO, that’s where it, if any, belongs. Keep the feds out of our lives as much as possible...

If you’re pro-life, fight for the most pro-life policy in your state.

Trump’s has enough national fights on his plate. Can’t ask him to fight every battle. He did his part by returning the fight to the states.

To: No name given

The only way to make abortion a federal issue is to pass a Constitutional Amendment.

Our Constitution is what made our country great in the first place.

Stop opposing it!

All the judges that Trump put in were picked for him by the Federalist Society. Any Republican who won would have picked them.

There was no conservative judicial vetting program when Reagan was president. Also the Republican party was much, much less conservative and Christian in those days so it’s totally unfair to Reagan to make that accusation.

Why is observing the Tenth Amendment being “weak on the life issue”?

Shame on you for misreporting.
There is nothing wrong with Trump’s statement.

President Donald Trump: The Republican Party will always support the creation of strong, thriving, and healthy American families. We want to make it easier for mothers and families to have babies, not harder. That includes supporting the availability of fertility treatments like IVF in every state in America, like the overwhelming majority of Americans, including the vast majority of Republicans, Conservatives, Christians, and pro-life Americans.

I strongly support the availability of IVF for couples who are trying to have a precious baby. What could be more beautiful or better than that? Today, I’m pleased that the Alabama legislature has acted very quickly and passed legislation that preserves the availability of IVF in Alabama. They really did a great and fast job. The Republican Party should always be on the side of the miracle of life and the side of mothers and fathers. They’re beautiful babies, and that’s what we are. IVF is an important part of that, and our great Republican Party will always be with you in your quest for the ultimate joy in life. Many people have asked me what my position is on abortion and abortion rights, especially since I was proudly the person responsible for the ending of something that all legal scholars, both sides wanted and, in fact, demanded be ended.

Roe v Wade. They wanted it ended. It must be remembered that the Democrats are the radical ones on this position because they support abortion up to and even beyond the ninth month. The concept of having an abortion in the later months and even execution after birth, and that’s exactly what it is, the baby is born, the baby is executed after birth, is unacceptable, and almost everyone agrees with that. My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land, in this case, the law of the state. Many states will be different. Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will have more conservative than others, and that’s what they will be. At the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people. You must follow your heart, or in many cases, your religion or your faith. Do what’s right for your family and do what’s right for yourself. Do what’s right for your children. Do what’s right for our country and vote.

So important to vote. At the end of the day, it’s all about will of the people. That’s where we are right now, and that’s what we want, the will of the people. I want to thank the six justices, Chief Justice John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Brett Kavenagh, Amy Coney-Barrett, and Neil Gorsuch, incredible people, for having the courage to allow this long-term, hard-fought battle to finally end.

This 50-year battle over Roe v Wade took it out of the federal hands and brought it into the hearts, minds, and vote of the people in each state was really something. Now it’s up to the states to do the right thing. Like Ronald Reagan, I am strongly in favor of exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother. You must follow your heart of this issue, but remember, you must also win elections to restore our culture, and in fact, to save our country, which is currently, and very sadly, a nation in decline. Our nation needs help. It needs unity. It needs us all to work closely together. Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, everyone, we have to work together. We have to bring our nation back from the brink, and that’s where it is.

It’s at the brink, and we will, we will do it. I promise you, we will do it. Always vote by your heart, but we must win. We have to win. We are a failing nation, but we can be a failing nation no longer. We will make our nation great. We will make our nation greater than ever before. Thank you very much.

"...abortion access should be a states’ issue..."

Because that worked out so well for the last human rights issue in 1861...

the SCOTUS decision was to always allow the states to decide their own abortion policy. there was no overturning of Roe

He doesn’t HAVE to say anything.

Why are you trying to get him to say something that is wholly unnecessary?

I’m not a fanatical zealot who’s blind to reality, either, but I don’t go around advertising that fact, and neither does President Trump.

“In June of 1967, Gov. Ronald Reagan signed into law a bill that legalized abortion in California.”

Buy a clue and at least try to understand the actual facts of what you’re idiotically attempting to support.
