California's minimum wage hike blamed for Fosters Freeze store closing down — worker laments she'd rather have the old wage because 'now we don't have a job'

A Fosters Freeze outlet in Lemoore shut down on Monday — the same day the new minimum wage kicked in — and its workers are now out of a job.

Monica Navarro, former assistant general manager of that Fosters Freeze location, told Fox Business that she and her former colleagues would prefer the old wage over being unemployed.

“From the people that I spoke to, my employees, we would have rather stayed at the wage that we did have before, just because now we don't have a job,” she said. She also observed the impacts of the new minimum wage on those fortunate enough to keep their jobs, stating, “Those who are still working in the areas around us that went up to $20 an hour, they got their hours severely cut and it's a lot less people working on shifts, so their jobs got a lot more difficult.”

Completely drop minimum wage. Let the market decide.

, so where does that demand now get fulfilled?

Many times the demand goes away.

In my youth things like this were special events, twice a year.

You’re missing that he’s a longtime proponent of minimum wage increases and believes the negative effects are misstated.

We would have rather stayed at the wage that we did have before.

Some still haven’t grasped the idea how socialism works flat line all wages.

It’s who you vote for that makes things change.

Without reading the comments, a popular response to this would be “you get what you vote for.” The folks fired here just want to live their lives and due to their socio-economic status, they generally have no influence over things coming down from their government, nor can they afford to move. It truly doesn’t matter if they vote Democrat, Republican, or Green Party, the results are predetermined in the elections anyway. Since the soap box has been taken away and the ballot box has been hijacked, there has to be another way.

That’s just how I view it. Nobody wants a worse life for themselves.

All demand does not immediately go to the next cheapest fast food joint. Some consumers will stop going altogether because it’s too expensive no matter where they go. Or consume less at the places still open because they can afford it less often.

The ones that can automate or streamline service to keep prices down will do so. But if consumers are out of work or don’t have the discretionary income any longer, they will see slimmer margins, too.

If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant you know that things can get pretty hectic around lunch and dinner time. Sometimes when you get very busy all of a sudden, it’s all hands on deck and everybody on shift is needed. Now maybe business is going to be slower because they’ve had to raise prices but it sounds like some businesses are trying to minimize price hikes by cutting staff instead. That problem with that is that it will effect customer service and wait times.

Re: Job Market

Subject: Wages for UNSKILLED Labor

Well sweety, you and your cohorts are the ones who screamed because you couldn’t pay your bills and RAISE a FAMILY on a minimum wage ENTRY LEVEL JOB.

A job that was meant for HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS as an entry level position to get them used to showing up for work on time and doing a NO SKILLS NECESSARY JOB.

When the WAGES for those types of jobs EXCEED THE VALUE of the EMPLOYEES the owners or the company simply delete the jobs and sometimes the entire enterprise.

Unfortunately for you, you were one of those people who listened and believed SEIU’s bullshit about how great this would be .

Now, enjoy the UNEMPLOYMENT LINE and hope you can score one of those TOILET SCRUBBING or JANITORS jobs that SEIU is famous for!

Personally we don’t care if you starve to death in the cold and the dark, because you have a real problem with common sense and loyalty!

BYE-BYE NOW.

The Management.

It was a Fosters Freeze shop, buy your ice cream at the supermarket, it’s not that hard to make your own malt or ice cream shake.

A lot cheaper at home also!

If there was a simple oven, you could claim that loaves were baked upon request. That would get you by that “requirement”.
