The possibility of Ukraine's army collapsing cannot be ruled out a US official has warned, report says

The possibility of Ukraine's army collapsing cannot be ruled out, an unnamed US official told Bloomberg.

The report said, citing talks with multiple officials, that Ukraine's position on the battlefield is at its most fragile moment since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022.

Ukraine's war effort has been weakened in recent months by a severe shortage of ammunition, dipping morale among Ukrainian soldiers, and the impasse in Congress over US aid to Ukraine, Bloomberg reported.

One major risk is a collapse of Ukraine's line of defense, which would allow Russia to make a major advance, Bloomberg said, citing an official speaking anonymously.

In recent weeks, building on its capture of Avdiivka, Russia has advanced incrementally in eastern Ukraine, claiming new territory and threatening the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said Friday that the government would allocate a further Hr 3.88 billion (almost $100 million) to help reinforce fortifications, primarily in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions, which sit near Russia's border.

However, The Wall Street Journal reported in March that although Ukrainian troops were building fortifications in preparation for an oncoming Russian offensive, there are fears that not enough progress is being made.

It’s not about the money, the ammo or the lack of air defence. It’s the glide bombs.

F16's which the Biden administration only allowed now, ATACMS's and more Patriot missile systems are the answer.

“Actually, we do have some responsibility.

It was the idiotic talk of bringing Ukraine into NATO that made the Russians upset.”

But they are still doing it !

Blinken repeated it again last week.

A nation that is paying pensions is not serious about an external military threat.

Its a tiny part of overall spending since the average pension is about $125 a month.

” LOL, yes some of us are so wise, we can learn nothing from history. Okay “

NeoCon bozos think tha the entirety of history is events from WW2.

The 1914 July Crisis, where a small border war escalated and destroyed a continent - that never occurs to them.

I was wrong.

My prediction 7 months ago was it would end this or next month.

I imagine Ukraine might last a few more months before they negotiate a deal with the Russians even if that breaks with what we want.

As Russia mobilizes, the relative combat power of Ukraine vs. Russia will tip more and more to Russia’s favor over time (no different than WWII with the Allies vs. Axis). Ukraine at 41, now 28 million people living there, cannot keep up with Russia’s 144 million neither in combat power they can muster, nor in losses they they can sustain in a war of attrition which this has become.

The problem for the West: At this point it’s becoming more and more an issue of warm bodies that can be stuffed into uniforms for Ukraine. Why you have this: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/what-does-ukrainian-mobilisation-bill-entail-2024-04-11/ More money for more weapons, ammo, etc. helps, but it’s not really where the critical path is anymore.

I seriously doubt that we can keep this going even until the Nov 2024 elections, despite some pundits talking about Ukraine lasting years, and a next Ukrainian counteroffensive... Sad, but in a way funny because of how disattached from reality things have become.

Hey folks, remember all those arguing how the Russian economy will implode and how Ukraine is doing well: https://g.co/kgs/4aUJWFb (Look at it over 1 year if you want to see what is happening - and guess how the Rubble is still doing?)

Also, Russia is now stepping up the damage they are causing to Ukraines infrastructure and industry. This was intentionally not done for the longest time and will sadly for Ukraine have lasting consequences.

Ukraine will lose some more land, little by little, in what amounts to the Russians keeping them under pressure until the give up. Eventually reality will settle in. Whatever deal gets worked out will address the post war relationship, i.e. Russia will want to be sure that Ukraine does not spornsor an insurgency and keep meddling with terrorists. Russia will want assurances regards NATO and Ukraine being a buffer/neutral state. When Ukraine finally “taps-out” Russia will want to be in a position of advantage and able to define the deal. Now it’s just a matter of keeping the pressure on and keep grinding away at Ukraine.

Isolationism is preferable to interventionism.

Interventionism is helping a country to defend itself?

So we should withdraw from NATO, let Russia take over eastern Europe and let China invade Taiwan and dominate Asia?

That would create a better world for us?

Same people that use statistical outliers as examples of the norm.

Whether purposely disingenuous or foolish, they are incorrect.

Ah, weighing in on the Religious war Zelensky’s crew started, are ya? You Zeepers are a particular kind of one-sided argument stupid in the Internet Age. In your beloved Ukraine there are no Russian Orthodox Churches left. They were taken by the Intelligence services of Ukraine.

Screw with Russia and expect them to allow your Spies as Ukraine calls clergy to operate.

Ukraine committed every first atrocity only to be repeated by Russia.

Ukraine thought they could channel their inner-Nazi and get away with NATO defeating Russia.

Now there will be hell to pay by Zelensky’s crew and Intelligence agencies.

US Patriot missile production is currently 550 per year. It is being increased to 650 per year.

That’s less than two missiles per day !

The US is a paper tiger. It can’t supply Ukraine even if it gives them the entire production !

Ternopil River is my guess. It is the shortest most easily defended terrain in Western Ukraine.

Time for NATO to walk the talk and send troops to secure Kyiv to make sure that the Ukrainian government does not fall.

It was always about the money. War has become an accounting method to liquidate old US Equipment and replace it with next generation Equipment.

Since when did Ukraine ever get modern battlefield Equipment such as vehicles. Sure they got missiles but even that was bastardized to ensure limited use.

Blame Joe. His Birmisma connection was sending money to the Moscow terrorists.

In your beloved Ukraine there are no Russian Orthodox Churches left.

Maybe if the "Russian Orthodox Church" followed the bible and not Putin they would still be allowed to function in Ukraine like EVERY other faith.

The decree was issued during a March 27-28 congress of the World Russian People's Council, which is headed by Russian Orthodox Church leader Patriarch Kirill. It calls the invasion of Ukraine a “Holy War” with the explicit aim of extinguishing Ukrainian independence and imposing direct Russian rule.

Russian Orthodox Priests Blessing Weapons
