The hero cop who took down a knifeman, ending his killing spree can be revealed.
NSW Police Inspector Amy Scott came face-to-face with the 40-year-old man dressed in a Kangaroos rugby league jersey and brandishing a knife as she responded to the fatal stabbings of six people in Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses said the officer only had time to yell “put it down” before the knifeman charged her.
After the man lunged at Inspector Scott, she shot him dead.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said Inspector Scott was “doing well under the circumstances” on Saturday evening. “She showed enormous courage and bravery,” the police commissioner continued, adding Scott was alone when she confronted the suspect. “She will be interviewed tomorrow.”
In 2019, Inspector Scott was recognised at the Rotary Club Police Officer of the Year award ceremony when she received the Demonstrated Courage and Devotion to Duty award.
On Saturday, that courage was on full display, when she met a man on the fifth floor about 4pm, him brandishing a 30cm knife.
The man, who is well known to police, was in the midst of a killing spree.
He had just fatally stabbed six innocent people, and was advancing on the senior officer.
There was only enough time for one warning before he would be upon her.
“Put it down,” she yelled.
The man ignored her and kept advancing.
The woman had no choice. Her years of training and experience kicked in.
She fired.
The bullet went into the man’s chest.
He dropped, bled out and died.
Putting emotions aside, the woman immediately got down on her knees and attempted to save the life of the man she had just shot by giving him CPR until other emergency services officers arrived.

Why am I not surprised ?
The article is quite clear in saying that Howard lowered immigration rates into Australia.
Exactly the opposite of what you’re ranting about.
His victims are just as dead without having a gun. He would have been stopped quicker either way.
The thing is, yes, the Howard government increased legal immigration into Australia while cutting illegal immigration dramatically.
Australia is not the United States. We're a low population country on the edge of overcrowded Asia.
Since the 1940s, when we faced invasion from Asia, and had little hope of defending ourselves, one of the common mantras in Australia has been 'populate or perish'.
We still have a low population with an entire continent as our disposal.
Australia has generally welcomed immigrants who are of value to our country. Howard did that.
Maybe that would be a bad choice for America - where you also have a massive illegal immigration problem, because you have land borders that are much harder to secure.
But it doesn't make it a bad idea for everybody else.

You’re correct. As I said in a comment that you may not have seen yet, I was wrong. I was thinking of illegal immigration only for some reason.

Empty or not, immigration is killing us. Has been for decades. None of the “conservatives” have ever touched it.
In fact, Mulroney doubled immigration from Pierre Trudeau levels.
We are in a massive house price bubble and rental shortage. The housing bubble is almost as extreme as Australia (and Vancouver is probably the worst in the entire world).
The first politician to talk about limiting immigration is Justin “freaking” Trudeau, not the “Conservatives”.
I don't know what he is, but I wouldn't make a judgement based on his facial hair.
But that's why Abbott was calling for a reduction to Howard era levels years ago - subsequent governments have gone further than Howard ever did.
What made sense during the Howard era economic boom doesn't necessarily make sense now.
Our current Labor government does actually does seem to realise they have a problem right now, and it's not entirely of their own making, but they've somehow managed to let in far more people than they actually planned which seems like sheer incompetence - apparently not to notice the numbers of visas they were issuing were triple their expectations for months on end.
They can’t administer their own programs, anymore. Not that they have any great desire to limit mass migration.
Canada is now going up by 1.5 million per year now. Almost all immigration, and “refugee” claimants.
My daughter recently flew to Sydney and had a wonderful cruise around Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. She said it looked so clean and safe, no people living on sidewalks, low crime, nice people. A world traveler, she thought Melbourne was the most beautiful city she’d ever seen.
So where in the world did this creep come from?
And btw, her husband, who recently died, was the sheriff and she’s the best shot at the shooting range they have.
There are plenty of lovely places in Australia. But we have our share of bad places as well. Like anywhere.
Most tourists won’t go to most of those, of course.
We are a pretty safe country in a lot of ways. But nowhere is immune to violence.
