Giuliani: Reagan Would Have Hit Iran Before the First Missile Got to Israel
Breitbart ^ | 04/12/2024 | Jeff poor

Posted on 04/13/2024 8:13:24 PM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Saturday on Newsmax2, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani argued the correct response to Iran’s attack on Israel would have been to hit Iran at the earliest stages of the strike as possible.

Giuliani argued that was what former President Ronald Reagan would have done if he were facing similar circumstances.

Clinton would have given Iran fast-breeder nuclear reactors in exchange for peace.

Operation Praying Mantis was a farce, and the U.S. had no business engaging it that kind of nonsense in the region. The kindest thing I can say about it is that it happened late in Reagan’s second term and he was probably marginally more lucid than Biden is right now.

“””””He didn’t retaliate after the Marines barracks bombing in Beruit.”””””

He was smart not to get bogged down there since his focus was Russia.

When the bomb went off the invasion of Grenada had already launched and about 47 hours after the bomb we had reached Grenada and were in combat.

Reagan was not diagnosed with Alzheimer’s until about 1994.

See post 24, we had already started the invasion of Grenada when the bomb went off in Lebanon.

the Iranian Navy suffered significant losses. Six vessels were either sunk or damaged and two oil platforms were destroyed.

Reagan sent a missile into Beirut. That was it.

There was I think a mini series on HBO or one of the cable networks Beirut. Depicts the recruitment of a Lebonese by the Iranians and how the attack on the towers, the marines were in, was planned and carried out and the killing of the US ambassador. Well scripted and acted.

Yes Reagan fired a missile but basically we turned tucked out tail and went home. That was only 1 reason to wipe out Iran since 1979.

And Trump shut them down during his four years.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jun/21/donald-trump-retaliatory-iran-airstrike-cancelled-10-minutes-before

There was a whole host of bombers and drones in the air, all visible on Iran’s radar, prepared to hit secondary targets if they did anything else. Iran totally backed down and did nothing for the rest of Trump’s term. He scared the dishdashah off of them.

We didn’t tuck tail and go home, on the 19th the invasion of Grenada had already been put into motion with the troops in combat on the air strip less than 47 hours after the bombing, Reagan rightfully skipped the emotions and stayed focused on the Soviet Union.

For what reason, if any, did Iran attack Israel?

First, President Reagan would not have given Iran that kind of money.

His arms-for-hostages deals were cooked up by Poindexter and North, and constantly played on Reagan’s deep sympathy for the hostages. But he was buffaloed before North totally went rogue. Also, it was entirely done in the context of an Iran-Iraq war-—not a war against an ally. Basically he allowed the two tigers to fight.

Second, though, Reagan never reacted with force of arms unless:
a) urged to in an emergency by neighboring nations as in Grenada; b) as a peacekeeping force, which he admitted was an error (Lebanon); or c) without multiple, repeated specific warnings (Libya).

Third, for something such as this-—which might risk a major war-—Reagan’s Doctrine was to exhaust every other possibility; get FULL support of the American public; go in with overwhelming force; and to stipulate an exit strategy.

So I don’t think he’d act in this situation, but he wouldn’t have given the Mullahs this much money in the first place.

Let's look at the past as we saw it then, and not as we see the present today. Let's say Reagan would not have retaliated for the initial 10/7 attack and let Israel go it alone. For the cruise weapon attack six months later, Reagan would absolutely wreck the Iranian military.

LOL yeah grenada took all of our resources and I guess beirut was bad timing. You may not know in the 80s we had a two-front war capability That is MAJOR wars, you remeber like WWII. call it want you want we bailed and Iran became stonger.

At that time there were 90,000 marines at Pendleton alone I guess we didn’t have enough to send to grenada and stay in Lebanon And grenada lasted soooo long.

Carter, Reagan, Bush 2, Obama, Biden all giving Iran a pass even as they threaten us and develop a bomb and remain the leading terrorist state in the world. What will it take for people like you to wake up, a nuclear explosion in the NY harbor?

LOL, it wasn’t a matter of a shortage, it was a matter of getting sidetracked from Reagan’s goal.

Reagan had a plan to end the Cold War and getting bogged down in the ME was not helpful in that plan.

Reagan pulled off the impossible with little loss of life, so he was doing something right.

and he let Iran kill 247 marines before he realized he was doing the wrong thing? You don’t pull out because you got people killed; you kill those who attacked them. That’s what a world power does. Our blunders have made us gun shy and the Iranians know how to run us. Maybe Trump will bring back the threat to them.
