I spent 5 years serving in my church’s prison ministry in many facilities and have spoken with many inmates.....lack of formal education seemed to be a common thread among a lot of them.

Well done! '

lack of formal education seemed to be a common thread
Not surprising. Whether it is the lack of education that is the cause or some inherent immaturity that makes the criminal unable to take advantage of formal education can always be discussed.

The education is there for the taking in these inner city schools. So many resources are poured into the system. If they applied themselves a little bit and slipped through school learning the basics, not even having to be an honor student, but get that diploma, with all of the affirmative action hiring programs out there they should have no problem becoming gainfully employed. The way is practically paved for them with our tax dollars and hiring programs for them to succeed.

But there is a thug mentality that permeates minority communities that looks down on anyone who tries to fit in to normal society. Schools in the inner cities aren’t allowed to foster an environment conducive to learning, not allowed to discipline and have control of the school environment, and the inmates run the asylum.

There are doors easily opened to minorities that are not for the remainder of society, but they just don’t want to walk through those doors. I suppose being told by media and government that you just aren’t good enough and need help makes them feel inferior, and they just don’t want to leave the plantation.
