New York Judge Threatens Trump With Jail Time During First Day In Court - 'Election Interference' by: Sterling Mosley 04.15.2024
On Monday, presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump traveled to New York City for the first day of his criminal trial in the hush money case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D). The defense and prosecution will begin to decide who will serve on the 12-man jury that will decide the 45th president's fate. During the hearing, Trump, who has repeatedly railed against the case as political persecution, was threatened by presiding Justice Juan Merchan that he would face jail time if he were to interrupt court proceedings or if he failed to appear while the trial was taking place.
During the hearing, Judge Merchan explained to the former president that he would be arrested if he did not appear at every hearing in the criminal trial in the coming months, a move that many conservative commentators claim is election interference. "If you do not show up, there will be an arrest," Merchan said. The trial is expected to take place over the next couple of months, perhaps even lasting until June.

If that judge were to do that then you have done exactly as Trump wants and have made him the ultimate Political Prisoner Martyr, your version of Joan of Arc or more likely like Captain Dreyfuss in France.
How do you appeal something that is not yet decided? This is a years long process - not just a week.
Any Democrat who loves this country would call for Biden to demand these charges be dropped by democrats so that we can get on with an election without taking one of candidates out of the mix. It is unAmerican, it is illegal, it is unconstitutional and it is a disgrace.

No it won’t. We are docile and accommodating. One of the reasons the DOJ went after J6 so aggressively, was to intimidate/prevent future marches/protests/groups from expressing their point of view.
Very few republicans have spoken up on Trump’s behalf and that won’t change. The truth is the republicans are ok with everything that happens to Trump.

I believe the idea is that, under conviction, Trump would no longer be given SS protection. I don't know if that is the case or not.
I would make a suggestion involving lamp posts, a few lengths of piano wire, and Merchan and Bragg’s circular reproductive units, but I don’t want to lose my posting privileges.

In California, at least, the order is non-appealable. Relief could only be had by a writ to the appellate court. If denied, then to the CA Supreme Court. In state court actions, SCOTUS only has jurisdiction to review decisions of the highest court in the state. No other case is necessary; THIS case goes up the ladder. I think it’s a pretty long shot SCOTUS. Would agree to review the issue

The case has been accepted by the court for trial. It is an absurd case, and should have been rejected by the judge. Playing along with this farce is stupid. There are plenty of Constitutional protections to prevent this type of outrage.
