Key Panel Calls on House to Quickly Pass Ukraine Aid Package
Epoch Times ^ | 4/18/2024 | John Haughey

House conservatives have stymied proposed supplemental funding packages for Ukraine since the fall. But their justifications for further delays in delivering military aid to Kyiv got little oxygen during an April 17 defense budget hearing before a key appropriations panel. “With Mr. Putin saying very openly and repeatedly that he wants to restore the old Soviet Union, all of the nation states, in Eastern Europe especially, are looking to us,” House Armed Services Committee Chair Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) said, referring to the Russian leader’s demands seeking no further NATO expansion, no missiles on Russia’s borders, and a return of NATO operations back to its 1997 borders. “If we fail them, I think it fuels further the belief that Putin will try to succeed in restoring the old Soviet Union.”

And if and when Russia attempts to “pull back” former Soviet republics into its fold, such as NATO members in the Baltic and Poland, Mr. Rogers warned, such aggression would automatically trigger the treaty’s Article 5 and embroil the United States directly into a military conflict with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces.

Finally some rationality surfaces in Congress. The usual suspects will have their tantrums, of course, but the adults will see this through.

Good article - RTWT.

Apologies, but to what “rationality” do you refer? We’re broke. We’re approaching a cliff with our debt where we can’t even pay the interest. Why is passing this funding bill “rational?”

The house deal was border closure for Ukraine aid. McConnell sabotaged that with his fake immigration bill. So now the house has no leverage.

We’re broke.

Well, we're not, but if we were it's not because we're taking our geopolitical obligations seriously. It's because we're p....ing away billions upon billions funding welfare, illegals, NGOs, and "green" corporate boondoggles, to name but a few of the worthless piggies sucking the Federal teat.

Can and wants are two different things

What hitler wanted and believed he could achieve was all that mattered. And even when it was plain that his goals and dreams were not going to happen he continued.

Much has been said about west “fighting to the last Ukrainian “, but it is interesting that the same usuals never mention putin fighting to the last Russians, of course not Moscow and St. Petersburg “Russians”.

Ukranians know what will happen to them under Russian occupation, putin knows what happens to him if he loses

The “we’re broke “ claim by the usuals, while not false, is classic trolling.

For decades the US spent trillions in anticipation with a conflict with the Soviet Union, and now that it is here(let’s be real the Soviet Union was always Russia with the others including Warsaw pact members being used and exploited) the usuals cry deficits, debt, and border security.

Your points are well said

The idea that 60 billion or 200 billion or whatever number they throw out is all new spending is a false narrative, but they know that.

Likewise aid to Ukraine or border security is a false narrative. Border issue is a political one not a financial one. The problem existed long before this war and will exist after unless the will to “fix” it is found

So if we fixed our border problems we could afford these useless go nowhere wars. Well, you go first.

Finland and Sweden obviously fear it, as do the Balkans and dozens more countries, even Switzerland and Austria are thinking that what they see from Russia in the future might force them to seek protection from it by asking to join NATO.

Team Biden is all about doing nothing about the border while fueling the Ukraine laundromat - they even give it away under the defense that most of the money stays right here in America. So you are team Biden.

I don't think they do. Certainly 99% of the screamers posting here don't.

Tell us what Congress can do to "fix our border problem". I've got an idea.....stop funding all the giveaways to illegal migrants. Cell phones, free bus and air fares, $debit cards, free lodging, free medical care, fees to NGOs, und-und-und. Sound good? Talk to Rand Paul and MTG about it.

The deep state made some offers that the congressmen couldn’t refuse.

The war machine must go on. Must continue killing white Christians while the deep state grifts off the “aid” they send.
