Gov. Youngkin signs bill prohibiting declawing of cats, effective July 1

If your kitty has claws, you soon won’t be able to have them removed in the Commonwealth. Gov. Glenn Youngkin has signed a bill outlawing the declawing of cats by veterinarians, effective July 1. This is not applicable to nail filing, nail trimming or the placement of temporary nail caps on your cat’s claws. Civil penalties include $500 for the first violation, $1,000 for the second violation and $2,500 for the third or any subsequent violation.

Goodness sake, that was a joke. Yet why can’t we claim damages on our taxes over a gov’t law that causes the damage in the first place to be unavoidable?

I agree and that was my first thought (great minds think alike lol). Sadly, it wouldn’t have done much to tell her that. After all, she started calling me a Nazi, accusing me of wanting people to starve (where that came from out of the blue how can know?), being a MAGA lover, etc. It was insane.

Anyone here want to do a YouTube spoof of this with me?

A freezing soldier is speaking to General Washington at Valley Forge:

“General Washington why did we have to spend this dreadful winter at Valley Forge? I lost two good friends to the terrible freezing weather last week .
Take heart son , your sacrifices will be worth it.
I see a future country where the government will pass laws so cats are protected and they can keep their claws. It will all be worth it when that day comes”

my answer to her ridiculous accusations woudl have been “After such asinine accusations by you, it’s Clear that you are an irrational person and incapable of telling the truth- Done talking- have a nice day”, then refuse to answer her outbursts from there on which they hate the most when someone doesn’t acknowledge them anymore

We had a cousin liek her- She would rant and rave abotu republicans, but whenever we tried to counter her asinine accusations, she woudl get all huffy and tell us that she “Doesn’t talk politics” - and that she ‘isn’t itnerested in alternative facts’- lol-

We quit talking with her- because we realized that what someone said was true “If you could reason with a democrat, there wouldn’t be any democrats.”

Excellent point you have there :) Thing is, today’s democrats are actually socialist/liberals/or worse. Not like the democrats of old...not that they were perfect...but I’d take them all back compared to what we have now.

We’ve had 12 cats over the last 44 years, the first 5 kept their claws and we had some furniture damage, but not a lot. We had to be diligent in disciplining them. For the most part they were good about scratching only their designated posts.

Our next group we declawed the 4 kittens at an early age, and they were playing the next day like nothing happened. The mother cat, who was about a year old, was also declawed at the same time, had only a little more trauma. She hobbled around for a day or two, but was fine thereafter. All of the declawed cats could climb trees just fine. Eventually we stopped letting them outside because they were getting old. We’ve used Soft Paws (caps) on the rest and those have saved a lot of furniture. Declawing is not cruel if you do it early and take care of them properly afterwards.

Would you rather be declawed or deballed?

“Right on, Governor Youngkin!
Declawing a cat is not, as many seem to believe, like clipping your fingernails. It’s more like amputating your fingers. Kudos for taking a stand against torturing animals.”

Thank you! Declawing is unnecessary and cruel. There are many uninformed people who treat animals like furniture.

Good. This is an inhumane practice. Good vets, like my ex, already refused to do it.

“So, can we claim furniture damage on our tax returns now, due to this new law, when the new kitty destroys a couch?

If your furniture is vulnerable, and keeping it undamaged is more important than your cat, a different kind of pet might be your best option (goldfish, hamster)”

There are all kinds of scratching toys and products which work very well and save the furniture. This person’s regard for a pet exposes their character.

Hey, maybe an unethical vet that declaws cats will team up with an abortion clinic to make it a twofer for the cat ladies.

“OMG it is OK to kill babies in the womb BUT don’t you DARE declaw your cat!!! GIVE ME A DAMN BREAK!! I have 2 kitties that NEVER go outside AND they are both declawed one was a feral adoption and after 3 visits to the emergency room in the very early days of her adoption the claws HAD TO GO!!! That cat had claws AND teeth that were SHARP!!”

I understand why the cat clawed you. If you don’t want to take the responsiblity to learn about them and have the nerve to hurt them instead, you shouldn’t have any type of pet or animal companion.

People don’t have any problem castrating (neutering) a cat, which changes its whole personality, but declawing, which just changes its ability to defend itself, they consider to be evil. Let a cat, be a cat.

“Open borders, massive debt, exploding crime rates and runaway inflation and this is the kind of legislation Republican governors are signing into law.”

Then should he not sign anything that is good because it is not earth shaking? People and civilizations that don’t take care of the innocent are weak and undeserving.

Cat trees are great! However, some kitties do NOT get the hint, and still prefer furniture. Those disposable cardboard scratch pads (~$6) workbetter for some kitties. We purchased utilitarian furniture with hardwood legs, and that was effective. Our worst clawer got brain cancer at 3 and is no longer with us. She was also entertainingly sassy, as she would meow at my wife before defying her (e.g. jumping on the dining table). I would rather have her than perfect furniture. Besides our 15 year old son is rougher on it than the cats. We can’tget him declawed though.

How does signing this declawing legislation take away from other legislation that needs signing?

They should be fighting to get something productive done for their citizens rather than signing nanny state laws that only further erode the rights of citizens. Get it?
