The man who set himself on fire outside former president Donald Trump's Manhattan trial has been named as Florida native resident Maxwell Crosby Azzarello.
Azzarello, 37, is in critical condition after setting himself on fire on Friday as horrified witnesses and CNN cameras watched.
He described himself as an investigative researcher in a blog post published just hours before he self-immolated.
Azzarello dropped fliers that included a link to a Substack post explaining his actions before he ignited himself.
The blog was titled: 'I have set myself on fire outside the Trump Trial.'
The conspiracy theorist claimed on the blog post that his 'extreme act of protest' was to draw light to what he called a 'totalitarian con.'
He wrote the government was 'about to hit us with an apocalyptic fascist world coup.'
Azzarello added: 'To my friends and family, witnesses and first responders, I deeply apologize for inflicting this pain upon you. But I assure you it is a drop in the bucket compared to what our government intends to inflict.'
Azarello travelled to New York City a week ago, saying on his Instagram he would be staying at Washington Square Park.
On his LinkedIn profile, where he seemingly appears in a photo with Bill Clinton, Azzarello wrote: 'We've got a secret fascism problem.'
His profile claims he has been self-employed since March of 2023.

Crazy people need to be institutionalized. At least he physically didn't hurt anyone but himself, but I suspect lots of first responders and others are traumatized because of his mental illness.
Sounds like he was protesting the deep state and global government. He certainly doesn’t trust our present government. Neither do I. Setting yourself on fire is not completely sane though.

He previously worked for Dem campaigns, so his roots appear to be left leaning. With our legacy media having completely destroyed any semblance of trust or neutrality, people are being driven to alternate sources of information. Many of them push bat$#!+ crazy conspiracy nonsense, some of it supported by our adversaries. Fortunately, even people who embrace nutty conspiracies rarely resort to violence or suicide.

You don’t fight fascism or terrorism or any kind of wrong, by setting yourself on fire. Chances are that, you might never find out if your actions or death resulted in fixing any problem or changing minds. Besides, people have very short memories and will soon have forgotten who you were or what you stood for.
You stand a much better chance of changing minds and outcomes by staying alive and working to set things right.

I think the idea is that you really don’t want 50% burns on your body if you have too many years on the clock; the older you are the less chance of survival.
I simulated the chance of dying at an age as a percent of that age with a quick python script. Out of a 1000 simulated people only one made it to 37. Nobody happened to make it to 38.
