US may send additional military advisors to Ukraine

The US believes that Russia appears to be gaining momentum in the two-year conflict. They are considering the possibility of sending additional military advisers to the embassy in Kyiv, reports Politico.

Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder stated that advisers would not have a combat role but would advise and support the Ukrainian government and armed forces.

"Throughout this conflict, the Department of Defense has reviewed and adjusted the U.S. presence in Ukraine as security conditions change. We are currently considering the possibility of sending several additional advisers to enhance the Defense Cooperation Office (ODC) at the embassy," Ryder said in a statement to Politico.

I seem to recall another war that started with sending advisors....Next thing you know, 50,000+ US Servicemen were dead.

But, but ... Sneaker Johnson said he’d rather send $$$$$ and bullets, to Uke, than American soldiers.

The US has sent advisors to all kinds of hot zones without serious American casualties. Dubya sent supplies in the teeth of Russia’s invasion of Georgia, preventing Putin from annexing the whole country. Russia sent thousands of advisors into North Vietnam as a tripwire force, to warn the US against invading the North. US advisors in Iraqi Kurdistan prevented Saddam from re-annexing the place after Desert Storm. And US advisors in Greece helped prevent Greek Communists from taking over after WW2.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_Civil_War
[The Greek Civil War (Greek: Eμφύλιος Πόλεμος, romanized: Emfýlios Pólemos) took place from 1946 to 1949. The conflict, which erupted shortly after the end of World War II, consisted of a communist-dominated uprising against the established government of the Kingdom of Greece. The opposition declared a people’s republic, the Provisional Democratic Government of Greece, which was governed by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and its military branch, the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE). The rebels were supported by Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. With the support of the United Kingdom and United States, the Greek government forces ultimately prevailed.]

Note that US advisors were in Indonesia on the eve of an attempted Communist putsch in which Russian-sponsored communists attempted to take over. The surviving anti-Communist generals - among whose number 6 had been murdered - rallied their troops, then killed a million Russophilic communist sympathizers.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/30_September_Movement
[The Thirtieth of September Movement (Indonesian: Gerakan 30 September, abbreviated as G30S, also known by the acronym Gestapu for Gerakan September Tiga Puluh, Thirtieth of September Movement, also unofficially called Gestok, for Gerakan Satu Oktober, or First of October Movement) was a self-proclaimed organization of Indonesian National Armed Forces members. In the early hours of 1 October 1965, they assassinated six Indonesian Army generals in an abortive coup d’état.[1] Later that morning, the organisation declared that it was in control of media and communication outlets and had taken President Sukarno under its protection. By the end of the day, the coup attempt had failed in Jakarta. Meanwhile, in central Java there was an attempt to take control over an army division and several cities. By the time this rebellion was put down, two more senior officers were dead.]

The idea that the US always backs losers is a canard. The Russian win/loss record is worse than the American one. Moscow has funded losers all over the globe. Its wins just get more publicity.

ADDITIONAL?! Would someone please explain this? As far as I’ve read, there are none officially in Ukraine. Not surprised if there are contractors there, but uniformed soldiers?

Add the draft (simple majority vote by our warmongering Congress) and it’s off to the races.

If you thought there were draft dodgers last time ...

This time the draft dodgers will include the sort of people who were gung ho in the 1960s.

LOL, like The Constitution will stop them.

Good luck if they actually try to enact the draft again. They may do it but no one is going to consent. We saw what happened during Vietnam.

We’ve had soldiers there since before the fighting started.
Not suspicious at all.

Yep, during WWI they had “Slacker Raids”, to catch people who avoided registering.

This will make that look like nothing.

The warrior class is no longer allowing their kids to sign up for the military. All of them have served in Vietnam. Our capability to wage war must be $#it by now.

When they win, they win big.

Napoleonic Wars. WWII.

If they manage to conquer Ukraine, they're not going to stop there. Putin is reestablishing the Russian Empire.
