How liberals killed Earth Day

How liberals killed Earth Day

OPINION:

Earth Day used to be a celebration of our individual and collective responsibility to protect the planet and improve human health. It was about science and data. Unfortunately, today, Earth Day has little to do with the planet and more to do with far-left agendas meant to increase control over the population.

The paint-throwing, street-blocking activists will be out in force pushing their narrative of climate doom, more than happy to ignore science in the process. The media will reflexively add credibility to the nonsense.

President Biden will tout the importance of some patently unachievable electric vehicle or emissions goal. Social media Pied Pipers will play their silly tune about how more of our money in the hands of runaway bureaucracy can change the temperature of the Earth.

Today’s socialist Democrats have used climate change to alter the national conversation from reasoned environmental protection to an irrational, emotionally damaging hysteria only loosely based on science.

As was laid bare at the height of the pandemic, far-left liberals in America are willing to be openly anti-science to drive their agenda of division and control. They routinely ignore or deny the substantial environmental progress that the United States has made in the last half a century, as well as the nation’s long-standing leadership role in environmental protection.

They ignore that even before the breathless push for electric vehicles and emissions caps, the U.S. was beating Europe in reducing carbon dioxide emissions. They ignore that while geologic history and environmental science make clear that the climate changes, there is little scientific data to support any effort by the U.S. government or Western governments collectively to affect the planet’s temperature.

Incorrect, Tommy. It was always a platform for Marxist propaganda, particularly stressed by the fact that they made it the same day as the birthday of Vladimir Lenin.

Liberals destroy everything they touch. In this case, they created a cult.

It was actually Gaylord Nelson.

Einhorn spoke at the first ED event and took credit for it though.

I was alive and aware back then. Earth Day was originally concerned with pollution, which was and remains a serious problem for us. (And the E.P.A.was proposed by a Republican president.)

We had never heard the term ‘Global Warming’ back then. As I said previously, we had been told for long while before that a next Ice Age would take us out.

But that concern over pollution has had a lot of good results - see the improvement in the Chesapeake Bay, where all of the grasses were dying in the ‘70s but now are coming back.

It’s one thing to despise current politics. But blaming them on legitimate concerns of 50+ years ago doesn’t make sense.

Lenin’s bEarth Day never had anything to do with pollution; the very date bears that out.

Party labels are irrelevant when it comes to the EPA or any other unconstitutional expansion of the federal government into a leviathan. The Uniparty is far older than the EPA.

The creation of Earth Day was never about improving the human condition.
It was and still is the attempt by the radical left to either replace or to provide a competing holiday to the most sacred days in the Judeo-Christian calendar, that of Easter and Passover, which the political left hates.
It’s all part of the long term effort by the left to erase American culture and replace it with something else, anything else.
I grew up in Massachusetts in the 1950s and ‘60s, and April 19th was always known as Patriots Day. That was the reason for the holiday, and the Boston Marathon became a part of this celebration. People were proud of their heritage, and glad to honor the sacrifices that led to the American Revolution. So much so that the local NFL Franchise was called the ‘BOSTON PATRIOTS’.
Over the years, by political attrition, the Founder’s sacrifices were delegitimized and erased. They are now known as the New England Patriots to remove the Boston connection, such as the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Massacre and the Battle of Bunker Hill. To the hippies of the 1960s, these were not events worthy of remembrance, much less celebration.
In Boston, there is no longer any celebration of April 19th and the ‘Shot Heard ‘Round the World’ on Lexington Green, it is now sanitized and lamely known as ‘Marathon Monday’, with no apparent purpose other than to cheer on foreigners aimlessly running through the streets. It’s become a celebration of the ridiculous yet cherished left wing policy of ‘diversity’.
A disgraceful turn of events.
The left has done the same with Washington and Lincoln’s Birthday Holidays. They have insisted on changing the holidays to ‘President’s Day’, so as to erase the greatness of both great men and to elevate America’s weak, anti American Democrat presidents to be the equal of Washington and Lincoln.
So the weak and corrupt administrations of Carter, Clinton, Obama and Biden are now included in the celebration of ‘President’s Day’, another disgraceful slap in the face to American culture, history and tradition. For those unfamiliar with why the left was so concerned about Washington and Lincoln, it’s because Washington was a member of the old Whig Party, which eventually became the Republican Party, and Lincoln was America’s first Republican President.
No democrat has ever come close to the sacrifices these two great men made, or their contributions to the country at large. Yet now we are all forced to celebrate ALL presidents as equals.
What a joke.
There are countless other examples of the left’s transparent attempt to replace American culture and tradition with their lame and weak-kneed options,
but for those of us who remember, it is incumbent upon us to pass on the true meaning of our holidays.
Earth Day is as lame as the phony, made-up Kwanza holiday, or Juneteenth, and just as irrelevant.
Celebrate America, the greatest country that has ever existed, and ignore the anti American political left, and their attempts to replace us.

I don’t know that Lenin’s birthday had anything to do with the date of ‘Earth Day’. Someone nasty in history was probably born on every day of the year. (An early advocate of homosexual and transexual rights was born on June 6 - should we have deferred D-Day to another date?)

Some of the people here need to read the actual title of this thread, and the original source article.

Radical so-called ‘Liberals’ have taken over a lot of good ideas and twisted them. Some of the people here are helping them by demonizing what was originally a good idea, instead of trying to bring it back to what it should have been.

Do you think it would be a good thing, if we never gave any concern - or developed any regulations - regarding pollution? And if you don’t, how do you think we should have managed it all?

With Easter and Passover, you’re speaking of moveable feasts. I don’t see how the left can pick a specific date to insult them.

I can remember when the L.A. sky was of an orange tint on most days and a deep breath caused in the chest. So yes, lots of progress has been made. But the prevailing attitude of most ‘environmentalists’ today would have us sitting in the dark and pretty much freezing to death. In fact dead is where many of them want us; to save the earth and all.

There is no logic to it. A bird covered in oil from an oil spill is an environmental nightmare. Hundreds of birds killed by wind turbines....crickets. Too much crap is being shoved down our throats in the name of ‘saving the earth’.

Yes, it is true.

Ira Einhorn’s early involvement in Earth Day has been memory-holed and plastered over with denials.

Kicking myself for not saving articles from Philly newspapers articles at the time touting Ira Einhorn as main organizer and speaker at early Earth Day rallies.

We’re expected to believe Senator Nelson came up with the idea all by himself out of nowhere.

I don’t appreciate the ‘crap’. But I do revere the Earth and want to take care of it.

Please don’t confuse politics with those simple sentiments.

Earth Day was intended to provide the pagan left with a spring celebration to compete with religious Holy Days, not necessarily a specific date.
The idea was to provide them with a day to celebrate Earth in the same time period of the year as religious observances.
Their worship of earth is regressive, not progressive as they claim. It is a throwback to pagan times in Europe when the various pagan tribes worshiped the gods of the wind, the sea, the forest or rivers, etc.
Christianity turned the focus of religious observances towards the human condition, and away from the inexplicable forces of nature.
The hippies of the 1960s are not providing us with something new, which is their claim.
It is, in fact, the oldest form of worship in human history, regressive to the point of ridiculousness. The ancients worshipped the forces of nature because they didn’t understand them.
We do.
Far more important is the understanding of human nature, and our relationship with our Creator.
Humans are the only sentient creatures in the universe, so far as we know.
That’s what makes human life sacred, that spark of Divine knowledge that separates us from all other living things. This concept is precisely what the political left wants to eradicate.
As Americans, we all enjoy our ‘God Given Rights’.
If the political left can destroy the very concept of God, then there are no God Given Rights, just the ones they allow. They can then treat humans like cattle, and do what they want with us, which is pretty much what they’re doing already.
They will have no mercy on us if they succeed.
The 60 million dead in the abortion industry is testament to this simple fact.

I was referring to what you posted.

Yes, your post stuck me as a screed. It didn’t have much relation to this actual thread/article.

Those actually condemn the left - but you just took them as an opportunity to ‘screed’.

(Someone should smash your ‘shut down’ button, now. Tomorrow is a work day.)

It’s not exactly a difficult idea to ‘come up with’; especially at a time when it was clear that pollution was destroying so much.
