Rep. Summer Lee beats back primary challenge in Pennsylvania
The Hill ^ | 04/23/2023 | Hanna Trudo

A first-term member of the Squad and a rising star within the progressive coalition, Lee will go on to compete in the blue district in the general election, having withstood Edgewood Councilmember Bhavini Patel’s primary challenge.

Lee was a top target this cycle of Democrats and Republicans alike looking to oust the left-wing congresswoman from her western Pennsylvania seat.

The Dems gerrymandered the map like hell to carve out a spot for this dark horse.

The worst is statewide, democrats voted by 100,000 more than republicans.

"Lee was a top target this cycle of Democrats and Republicans alike looking to oust the left-wing congresswoman from her western Pennsylvania seat."

LOL, that's why the GOP has spent about $1.50 supporting their candidate. Though it's true they will have a better chance against the 100% known racist ultra-liberal (Lee) than they would have had against the mostly unknown racist ultra-liberal (Patel).

But unless there is some clear evidence in the internal polling that Hayes stands any chance of coming within even 10 points of Lee in November -- which is unlikely -- the RNC is going to spend its limited resources elsewhere, mainly trying to play defense for (at least) a couple dozen vulnerable GOP incumbents.

“The worst is statewide, democrats voted by 100,000 more than republicans.”

Actually, as things stand now:

D votes (presidential): about 991,000
R votes (presidential): about 944,000

Based on current registration figures:

D turnout: 25.4%
R turnout: 27.0%

Since there was basically NOTHING contested for the GOP anywhere, why would turnout be expected to be sky-high for some reason? Democrats had SOME (but not many) things to vote for — a couple of contested statewide offices, a couple of contested U.S. House races.

Relax. Don’t just go by the Senate race, where numerous GOP voters left that one blank.

She (Summer Lee) is my Rep, from Pittsburgh, communist, racist, muslim, not at all like the majority of Pittsburgh folks, but re-elected any way.

Our mayor, council, county government and even locals are all communist, socialist and “progressive” (I hate that name).

I think the GOP likes keeping extreme Leftist radicals in office to fundraise against.

Not as if “Patel” sounded like a much better option.

“I think the GOP likes keeping extreme Leftist radicals in office to fundraise against.”

That may serve a larger purpose as you implied, but it’s not like they had much choice here. They could have crossed over into the Rat primary to vote for the slightly lesser of two evils, but Lee has a consistent track record of hatred to vote against in November and perhaps that will provide inspiration for voters.

The deck is still heavily stacked against them in PA-12, but if the GOP can find some benefit in the situation then more power to them.

Not that easy to cross over in Pennsylvania. We are a closed primary state. A change in party registration needs to be made at least 30 days before an election.

Thanks for that info. Anyway, by August my then 18yr old son will be registered to vote and he’s chomping at the bit to vote Trump.

In my county (Westmoreland), things weren't quite that good. As a county, R's are a lock due to our registration advantage, but our voter turnout was R: 28% and D: 31%, so I know what the focus needs to be going forward.

Why we moved from Allegheny to Westmoreland...

The worst is statewide, democrats voted by 100,000 more than republicans.>>> And then if you add that in the general election 2-3% of republicans (commie, baby killers) even in conservative districts will vote for the baby killer commies at the state level while voting conservative at the local level. That is a 4-6% net gain by the democrats at the state and federal level elections. Check out the AG election last year.

I would suspect that the 12th district Democrat primary brought out extra Democrats in the portion of Westmoreland County which has the misfortune to lie in that district.
