Florida Gov. DeSantis Blasts House Speaker, GOP Who Voted For Ukraine Aid With No Border Concessions

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday blasted House Speaker Mike Johnson and GOP lawmakers in Congress for handing President Joe Biden a win on foreign aid, especially in Ukraine, without wringing any new concessions from Democrats to secure America’s border.

Last weekend’s move by Johnson, said DeSantis, “was a real, real failure" that grossly betrayed GOP voters.

Many conservatives have leveled Johnson in recent days for going along with the $95 billion package that funded Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan — just as Biden and congressional Democrats wanted.

DeSantis ripped Johnson for forgetting the people who placed their faith in him and the rest of the GOP.

House Republicans “were sent there, and the No. 1 issue that our voters wanted them to address is the southern border and the massive influx of foreigners by the millions coming into this country,” said DeSantis.

“We don't know who these people (immigrants) are, and they (Republicans) basically just surrendered on the border,” he continued. “They now have no leverage to do anything on the border.”

The governor pointed out that Johnson and the GOP could have forced Biden to accept tougher border security measures in exchange for the aid for his cherished Ukraine and the others.

“I mean, it's just pathetic. I was really, really disappointed to see that they basically capitulated entirely on the border. And at this point, you're not gonna see anything done on the border for the rest of this year,” the governor added. “I think it was a real, real failure.”

This is what conservatism looks like, since we rarely see it on display anymore.

99% of FReepers feel the exact same way. It’s too bad we have no one in Congress that actually REPRESENTS us.

Maybe Ron’s next political goal should be as a Congress Critter? ;)

Not really. DeSantis sees a little blood in the water and is taking advantage of it.

Trump the coward endorsed Johnson after this betrayal because Trump will abandon conservatives this cycle. We keep seeing the signs, but the messianic Trump supporters, like you, just crap on conservatism every chance you get.

“ Well, Trump did give him the opening.”

Unlike many Freepers Trump can do basic math.

The recent expose’ showed why. The congress critters to include MAGA fave MTG are profiting from the war with their legal insider trading. M Stewart or ourselves go to prison…. Congress makes bank. This is the problem. They continue to reject any legislative reforms to hold them accountable. They are self reporting. Funny, many members haven’t reported for a while.

The United States needs to denounce (officially exit) the Refugee Convention, which is a legal tool that allows all physical border security measures to be bypassed.

As I understand it, $3.5 billion was appropriated for the importation of Gazans, who have been taught to hate Jews from an early age.

Jews will be getting an ‘education’ at more places than just elite universities.

Terrible candidate, one of the highest negative approval rates among governors.

Conservatives like him, but he won’t win a national election.

He is the opposite of Susan Collins - a conservative who can win a largely conservative state, but is not attractive outside his state to enough voters to get elected.

And he continues to make himself odious to many trump supporters.

Plus this guy squandered more money than even Jeb bush and had the same result. He ran a poor campaign.

You have to win enough states to become the nominee.
You have to win enough electoral votes to win a national election.

He should govern FL while he can. He does pretty well there.

Considering that Johnson held his position on Ukraine for MONTHS before flipping, whereas DeSantis flipped in DAYS, so I’m not sure DeSantis is the best spokesman here.

Johnson could have tried to make it so any payments Trump would have to make under NY State court judgments would be compensated by debiting federal payments to New York State.
