The population of Providence, R.I., has barely held even since 2020. Had it not been for some 8,300 immigrants who settled in Providence County, it would have shrunk by 1.3 percent by last year. Same in South Bend, Ind., where some 1,700 immigrants into Saint Joseph County barely filled a gap left by locals ditching town.
Immigrants slowed demographic decline in more than 1,100 counties from 2020 to 2023, according to census estimates. Their numbers made up more than the entire growth of the population in 131 of them. The demographic reality casts immigration in a different light, not as a burden but as an opportunity: a powerful tool to lift vast swaths of America that prosperity has left behind.
It would require smart policy and political will — neither of which is plentiful in Washington, but Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) idea of busing migrants to cause political pain in blue jurisdictions could, unwittingly, be put to valuable use: encouraging migrants to rekindle economic development in depopulating cities such as Buffalo, Akron or Detroit, which have struggled to keep up with the economic transformations of the past 30 years.

That is redundant, because quality immigrants such as doctors, scientists, engineers, physicists, Chemists, mathematicians, etc almost NEVER come across the border illegally.

In 1980 that would be like 75%. The city of San Jose is still 25% White, was also 70% as recently as mid 80s...and for the prior 100 years.
We don’t need ANY “immigrants”. Haven’t for decades. Just need to go back to the family culture that was commonplace prior to 1965.
I see your point. Since we cap legal immigration in mere thousands and illegals are in the millions, its not a lot of difference anymore.

In the 1980s Austin was the greatest little city in the United States. It prided itself on being weird but it was still a safe but sane city with a slightly left of center population. It was and is a party town.
The University of Texas has destroyed the Austin of old. UT is a left wing ideological propaganda center and its ideals have poisoned Austin. Today Austin is "Berkley on the Colorada." Austin is lost.
We accept a million legal immigrants a year. That number can’t be increased because of all the illegals and “asylum seekers”.
They need to go through all these refugee areas and root out all the anti American creeps and send them home, find every illegal who has taken taxpayer money and deport them too.

Immigrants who come the lawful way do good things.
A good portion of adults here in flyover country are on disability, not because they're disabled, but because there's not enough jobs to go around.
Importing more unskilled workers isn't going to help.

There are no jobs and not enough resources for them in the heartland. Natural born Americans have trouble finding work and a decent doctor in the heartland. These people are so out of touch.
Rhode Island needed to cheat in the census to keep both congressional seats. That’s what this is about: offsetting blue state population decline, and maybe turning some red states blue.
The government has been committed to offshoring manufacturing for years. The illegals won’t be revitalizing US manufacturing. Some of them will be taking jobs away from the native-born poor though. The rest will provide jobs to government social service workers.
America stopped all immigration for 40 years and we should do that again.
