Trump’s 2020 'fake electors' charged with state crimes in Arizona
NBC News ^ | April 24, 2024 | Vaughn Hillyard and Dareh Gregorian

A state grand jury in Arizona on Wednesday indicted so-called "fake electors" who backed then-President Donald Trump in 2020, following a sprawling investigation into the alleged efforts to overturn Joe Biden’s win in the presidential election in the state.

One month after the 2020 election, 11 Trump supporters convened at the Arizona GOP’s headquarters in Phoenix to sign a certificate claiming to be Arizona’s 11 electors to the Electoral College, though Biden won the state by 10,457 votes and his electors were certified by state officials. The state Republican Party documented the signing of the certificate in a social media post and sent it to Congress and the National Archives.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, won her election to be the state’s chief prosecutor in November 2022, replacing Republican Mark Brnovich, a one-time ally of Trump who later earned the former president’s scorn for not substantiating Trump’s claims of election fraud in the state.

“We have to make sure that it’s clear to everyone it’s unacceptable to try to steal an election, to undermine and overthrow an election, and that’s what happened,” Mayes told MSNBC last year after her election victory. “We have to make sure what happened in 2020 never happens again.”

The Arizona charges are the latest example of Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election sprouting into legal cases during his 2024 bid to retake office.

Arizona was one of seven states where “alternate electors” signed paperwork falsely claiming Trump had won the state. “Alternate electors” in Nevada, Georgia and Michigan have already been charged by prosecutors in their respective states.

Just curious: When are they going indict those involved in the Russia collusion hoax?

This, BTW is a NORMAL, routine political operation all parties have carried out since forever. It’s just never been highlighted by any media to now turn a routine function into some wild supposed illegal activity that ISN’T AGAINST ANY LAWS

I’ll bet someone brings this up during the trial.

“though Biden won the state by 10,457 votes”

Fake news.

Michigan’s aggressive anti-Trump vendetta goes on, too. The picture of AG Nessel makes her look like the real shrew she is, doing anything she can to hurt anyone GOP and Trump.
Must wipe venom off her chin.

I wonder how much time, money, and effort the national party (RNC and other official party groups) have spent to stop or at least curtail vote fraud for 2024. That should have been Priority #1. Maybe Ronna McDaniel had enough time between spa visits to be on top of this and we’re in much better shape than four years ago. [sarc/]

“The “fake electors” were part of the normal process if the vote count of a state is contested. In reality they’re called “alternate electors””

That’s what happened in Hawaii. That’s what happened with the Pennsylvania electors in 2020 which is why they aren’t being prosecuted.

What happened with AZ is that they had lost the legal case, it wasn’t legally contested, but they still knowingly and falsely claimed they were the duly elected electors. They did it as part of a plan to present multiple slates to Pence, who would either discard AZ votes, or delay the count and send it back to the AZ legislature.

It was a ill conceived, poorly run con job. If they had competent lawyers, they could have run the scam and at least covered themselves legally (not that they should have tried the scam).

They were morons and unfortunately are getting what they deserve.

Trump’s “alternate Electors” are now under indictment and facing felony trials in four states: Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada. These trials effectively decapitate the Republican leadership in those states, making a win in any of them a long shot.

Abortion going on multiple ballots when we now learn a super majority of voters across the nation support it, is another threat we’re facing now.

Eastman, Chesebro, and probably some others I’ve forgotten right now were considered some of the best Constitutional lawyers in the nation. Now, they’re being disbarred and Chesebro is a prosecution witness against everyone involved.

I don’t understand how so many regular posters here haven’t gotten this. Hawaii and these recent cases are NOT the same.

Eastman was an academic not a practiced constitutional lawyer. He never worked for a law firm, he moved from politics to academics. The lack of real world practice was probably part of the problem. Chesebro has no credit or case to his name that would suggest anything but mid-tier.

If you want to see what “best Constitutional lawyers” look like, try guys like Paul D. Clement or William Consovoy (sadly died last year) who actually took big cases to the Supreme Court and won.

That said, the electors seem to have been working with local political lawyers. The names are redacted in the indictment, but we’ll find out pretty soon.

They rely on dishonest news sources like Gateway Pundit who knowingly post crap for clicks. They aren’t getting the real story, they are getting clickbait written to make them angry. It is a cancer on the right.

You seem to be defending and cheer leading the corrupt bastards on the other side.

The election in Arizona is clearly fraudulent, and none of the people in power there right now should have been allowed to take those offices.

The evidence is overwhelming that Maricopa county elections are fraudulent. When Trump becomes president, the Justice Department needs to investigate all these current officials and send them to prison for their crimes.

Of course if these corrupt bastards are in power, Trump won't win Arizona. Maybe there will be a riot and violence will solve the Arizona corrupt elections problem.

You seem like another cheer leader for the other side. I guess we can tell it’s an election year, because all the sleeper agents are coming out of hibernation.

“You seem to be defending and cheer leading the corrupt bastards on the other side.”

No, I’m saying nothing about the corruption in the AZ election, or in Maricopa county.

I’m saying that there was an illegal response to what happened in AZ.

If you think Dems cheated to win, it doesn’t entitle you to cheat back. You have to punish their cheating, you have to win legally, and you have to win hearts and mind. Coming up with a loser, counter cheat is pathetic and doomed to fail.

Exactly. You are trying to sweep it under the rug by focusing on asserted illegalities pushed by the corrupt people who benefited from the election corruption.

If you think Dems cheated to win, it doesn’t entitle you to cheat back.

Au contraire mon frère! It absolutely entitles us to cheat back, and we need to do it better and harder.

When the game is rigged, it becomes time to kneecap their side.

Breaking the legitimacy of the election process should call for absolutely every sort of response from normal Americans.

There should have been riots.

you have to win legally

What does that mean when their corrupt judges obey the Mexican drug cartels? I'm serious. The behavior of their judges cannot be explained by a weighing of the evidence. It has been alleged that every important official in Arizona is now under the thumb of the Mexican cartels, and the behavior of these judges and other officials certainly reinforces that view.

I think Arizona is a very corrupt place right now. I do not think the rule of law has anything to do with it. People unafraid of the truth do not go to so much effort to hide it, or to punish those who demand to see the truth.

The Cyber ninjas found around 75,000 fake votes in Maricopa County alone. Others have said upward of 200,000.

95% of the overseas ballots went to Joe Biden. Arizona is absolutely corrupt, and the legal system there is part of that corruption.

When Trump gets into power, the Justice department needs to arrest everyone in Arizona and prosecute them.

There’s nothing cheerleading about knowing what our opposition is doing and the effects it’s having. Ignoring reality will never get us anywhere but griping online.
