An Oklahoma man is facing up to 12 years in prison for having ammunition in his carry-on bag at a Turks and Caicos airport, according to a GoFundMe page for his family.

Ryan and Valerie Watson, the parents of two young children, were flying home from their island vacation, where they were celebrating a friend's 40th birthday, on April 12 when they were arrested at the airport.

"They had their lives turned upside down when they tried to return home, as local airport security found four rounds of ammunition unknowingly left in a duff[le]bag from a deer hunting trip," a description on the family's GoFundMe page states. "It was not noticed by TSA when leaving America. Now, they are facing a legal system that is unfamiliar, daunting, and expensive that operates differently than the American Justice System."

The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a travel alert in September 2023 telling Americans not to bring ammunition to the islands.

A similar story happened around here a few years ago. They left one pistol cartridge in their bag at some Caribbean hell hole. It seems like Louie Gohmert had to pull some strings to get them released.

How about we all boycott Turks and Caicos? Teach them to not touch an American. From the report, this was missed by our attentive TSA and not intentional.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wonder how many weapons & bullits TSA “missed” on the incoming Brandon Airlines illegal migrant flight??

According to the story, it sounds like he’s out on bail? Can someone not organized at 3 AM boat out to a Whiting yacht? Or a king air landing at the airport and whisking him away?

Whew! At least they didn’t have ammunition in New York! They really would have been screwed.

We would probably arrest him here and send him back to face his charges.

While I don’t think he needs 12 years in prison, I’m not letting this guy off easy.
“You gotta be tough to be dumb!”
This is personal responsibility, he failed in a big way.
Very little sympathy from me, sorry.

Turks and Caicos is not a cheap vacation spot. Maybe you go to Mexico or Dominican Republic to save money or some European destinations.

Meanwhile…while back on our southern border, we are importing ME terrorists bringing in tons of C4 and other makings for IEDs. America is committing suicide right before our eyes. Talk about Nero and Rome!

Yes, several years ago on a flight to Alaska one of my sons used what had been a range bag and turns out there were several 9mm rounds buried in a pocket. TSA found them all smiles, no big deal, they kept them, and we went on our way. This was in Reno. Bet a different result in New York City.

Maybe so. But in a foreign country, you have to follow their rules. Americans often feel entitled and thumb their noses at foreign rules.

Yes, but these countries should show deference to Americans. Especially those that depend 99% of their economy on us. Clearly there was no suspicion he was importing, trafficking, or had bad intentions with the ammo.
