NYC rule will slap sugar warning labels on food, drinks including Starbucks, Dunkin’ specialties

Oh, sweet — the ‘nanny state’ is back!

Fast-food chains and coffee shops in New York City would have to slap a warning on menu boards and packaging under a new rule from the Adams administration.

The city Health Department’s first-in-the-nation edict will mean labels warning on food and drinks with more than 50 grams of added sugar, including frozen coffee drinks from places like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts, fountain sodas and even hot chocolate.

Food outlets with 15 or more stores in the US are ordered to use a warning icon — a spoon loaded with heaps of sugar — to alert and maybe shame sweet-toothed customers.

This will surely help the people who didn’t already know that doughnuts contain sugar. It’s good that the government has now solved the obesity epidemic. Is there nothing they cannot do?

I have no problem with consumers being informed about what’s in the food they’re consuming. The free markets require the consumer to be able to identify what they are purchasing.

The food supply and pharma supply have basically been poisoned by big corps that the MIC neoCON scum worship over the health and safety of main street Americans.

Anyone who hasn’t figured out that sugar isn’t exactly the best thing for you will not care what label is on anything.

The ninnies up north are truly making Denis Leary’s lecture in Demolition Man more and more prophetic:

Bob Dole made a huge mistake in his campaign defending big tobacco. Conservatives would be wise not to do the same with other products that are clearly harmful... there is nothing wrong with requiring proper labeling so consumers can make informed decisions. But this will upset their corporate donors / puppet masters.

If anything deserves a warning label, it is the government.
If anyone deserves a warning label, it is the politicians.

Let's see...you've got high crime, high rents, high taxes, a horde of ungrateful illegal criminal invaders committing crimes, a major drug problem...and the brain dead legislators want to slap a sugar warning on food.

DUH.
