Members of a terror group in the Gaza Strip launched mortars at an under-construction pier for a US-led project to bring aid into the Palestinian enclave yesterday, the military says.
The mortar attack occurred as United Nations officials were touring the site with Israeli troops on the coast of central Gaza, the IDF says in response to a query on the incident.
The IDF says the UN officials were rushed to a shelter by troops amid the attack.
UN officials also confirmed the mortar attack to the Associated Press, saying there were no injuries.
“The terrorist organizations continue to systematically harm humanitarian efforts while risking the lives of UN workers, while Israel allows the supply of aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip,” the IDF adds.
The attack marks a shaky start to the construction of the pier, a project that the US is spearheading to surge humanitarian aid into Gaza.
No group claimed responsibility for the mortar fire, but a Hamas official told AP yesterday that the terror group will resist any foreign military presence involved with the port project.

Gold clap to chomo Joe.
WHo woulda thought “death to America” terrorists would want to kill Americans.
Apparently the Gazans don’t need US aid after all - they have Qatar so all is good ....
Reminds me of the North Koreans POWs who upon release tore the best clothes they would ever wear from their bodies.
The US should have NOTHING to do with helping Gaza. Anything that strengthens Gaza will strengthen Hamas.
Palestinian terrorists fired mortars Wednesday at United Nations officials...........
Well, they can’t be all bad....................
Did the Allies construct a pier in Hamburg or Bremerhaven to provide “aid” to the Germans during WWII while we were bombing the shit out of them?
Nobody predicted that! Lol. Glad nobody was hurt. The clear motive here is to perpetuate the myth that Israelis are starving the Gazans. That’s not true. It is challenging to deliver aid, but 1000+ trucks are getting in every week. Pita bakeries are reportedly running at 100%. Reports are that shops are full of groceries but I haven’t seen confirmation of that.
Anyway, regardless of the facts on the ground, everyone knows that if a pier is build and ships full of aid deliver every day then the propaganda that Gaza is starving is rendered mute. It undermines their PR machine. It also takes away Hamas stranglehold on aid. If Gaza gets flooded with so much free food Hamas cannot steal it or ration it or resell it to finance their armed struggle. So they want to blow it up and never see it built. If Gaza was truly starving, which they have been saying for months now, then a) they would want the aid and b) there would be emaciated bodies to show by now. So while I agree things are very difficult on the ground, and many have been killed, I just don’t believe the Hamas propaganda at all.
Biden is going to get American Solders Killed.
I take the opposite view. Anything that helps the average citizen of Gaza is bad for Hamas. And yes sure I know Hamas won an election some 20 years ago… but Hamas likely intimidated and bribed their way into power, chased out or killed all dissidents especially the PLO kleptocrats… but has now dragged the entire population into full scale ground war. Whether the people will rise up and oust Hamas remains to be seen, the definitely should and possibly will at some point - but an alternative to Hamas needs to germinate and one part of that is to take away Hamas’ ability to control and intimidate and extort from the people. I don’t like risking US civilians or military in this pier building endeavor, but the pier itself is probably good as part of a longer multi stage attempt to remove Hamas from power and influence.
The population of Gaza supports Hamas the was DC supports democrats. 92% plus.
Fixed target. It’ll get bombed again, and again and again.
Fire at will....
Glad my name ain’t ‘Will’!...................
as I have been saying round up all the Hamas protestors, and then air drop them into Gaza with a bag of food to share.
Its a win win for everyone involved since they hate America so much!
Haiti.........sans bag.....................
I know right!
Bwaaahhh ha ha ha
Yes that is a problem but it’s a very involved problem. Hamas rose to prominence many decades ago as an aid group for the poor. They did not have a militant armed wing. That changed obviously though I’m not sure exactly when. And after Oslo failed and the intifada of 1999-2002, violence became the norm. Hamas grew much more popular because of the failings of the PLO/PA. The PLO was corrupt and stole from the people while Hamas still had this image of being a social support organization. So they voted Hamas into power. Hamas then went hog wild. They do not allow dissent, they jail, torture or kill their opponents. So of course 92% support them. That 8% risk their lives just answering the question incorrectly.
So I see at least two tracks here. First Israel has to capture or kill as many Hamas as possible to gut their projection of power. It is incredibly hard because Israel was derelict for 20 years allowing Hamas to build and harden defenses inside dense civilian populations and sensitive sites. Second, the people have to see an alternative path. They will support Hamas until supporting them is futile. It won’t be easy because Hamas has raised a generation on hate and war. But there are some glimmers of hope. Other than Iran and maybe some wealthy people in Qatar, none of these Middle East countries want Hamas style ideology to spread. Their silence to date is deafening. Other than the perfunctory speech, and some aid air drops in coordination with the IDF not many seem to care if Israel annihilates Hamas. Just like they wanted Al Queda and Isis destroyed. There is no future for these countries if they are perceived as hotbeds of terror. Egypt has had buses of tourists bombed etc. So at some point when the dust settles I really hope there is a full court press on the Palestinians by US, EU, and the Arab world that continued support is contingent on them settling their dispute with Israel. Biden’s and others’ talk about a Palestinian state is premature at this point.
The Palestinians remain their own worst enemy but the only choices are remove them - which would be genocide - or convert them to an ideology of peace, an ideology where they build a society for their own future instead of with a goal of taking someone else’s future. It has worked with Egypt and Jordan - those are cold peace but peace nonetheless. It was the main driver behind the Abraham accords those countries decided it was in their interests to focus on themselves and not against Israel or letting the whimsical and violent PLO/Hamas dictate their foreign policy. The Palestinians need Israel much more because Israel is their only path towards prosperity. It has always been theirs to take but they constantly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory because their leaders just can’t get their heads around the idea of accepting a Jewish sovereign state in the region.
