GWB would have beaten Gore handily if the media had not spent the weekend before the election obsessing over the 24-year-old DUI story. That may have cost Bush several million votes among evangelicals.

One theory (advanced here on FR at the time) as to how the Democrats even discovered that old arrest was from Hillary's illegally-acquired FBI files. There could have been something about it in George H. W. Bush's FBI file. No personal familiarity with FBI files but I think they include information about family members. Just another reminder of why the Democratic Party is rightfully called the Evil Party.
