This is an execellent explanation of what I have seen in the bear spray and firearms "research". The first paper was published in a journal where one of the authors was the editor of the journal.

None of the three most cited papers have released their raw data, which allows critical conclusions to be drawn without much serious examination.

All three were published in the same journal.
