Rep. Jennifer McClellan (D-Va.), a surrogate for President Biden’s reelection campaign, said on Sunday Biden is focused on ensuring “proportionate” consequences for student protesters.
In an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill on Sunday,” Chris Stirewalt asked McClellan how Biden was navigating the opposing tensions on his base, with some embracing the student protesters’ viewpoints and others raising concerns about violations of the law and incidents of antisemitism.

You don’t restore order with “proportionate” consequences.
You impose consequences that lawbreakers are too terrified to risk.
This is none of the President’s business. Now allowing an invasion of our country by millions of illegals, that should be the President’s business.

You're right. J6 was a protest that went bad for FOUR HOURS. No spray painting, no fires, no flares, no multiple sites, no hidden organizers behind the protest.
None of the people behind this current demonstration/riot will spend even a week in jail. NOT ONE PERSON. The FBI not only won't look at his obvious horror, they'll hurt anyone who tries to look at it. FBI - dirty cop filth...or totally incompetent.

"Proportionate" has an air of "break-even" about it which can be a sucker bet, in this case for the public.
There is simply no way to know the extent of damage caused when a violent group disturbs the peace and shatters the ordinary course of civil events. Beyond collateral physical damage there are such things as the cancellation of graduations, etc.
The terrorists behavior was 1000 times worse than the J6 freedom fighters. Yet Islamic terrorists go free and patriots languish in a DC gulag. Comparing the antifada to J6 is a good tactic.
Aggressive protests diminished significantly after the Kent State shootings, when protesters realized that they were throwing stuff at armed men with loaded weapons.
Protests would stop if riot cops waded in with batons, and broke bones and skulls. But the cops know THEY would be heavily prosecuted by the same DAs who release the protesters without charges or bail.
