MTG Pulls the Trigger, Forces the House to Vote to Expel Speaker Johnson
Breitbart ^ | 08 May 2024 | Bradley Jaye

Posted on 05/08/2024 2:28:41 PM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has filed a privileged motion to vacate the chair, forcing the House to vote within two legislative days to eject Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

Johnson is expected to immediately move to table – and effectively kill – the motion, a vote which requires a simple majority. Yet House rules do not prohibit Greene, or any other lawmaker, from forcing additional votes, and she and her allies have not tipped their hand as to what they’ll do should the motion be killed.

Further, Johnson’s immediate future, despite assurances from Johnson-friendly media outlets, is far from certain. Some Republicans, including those who will vote against ejecting Johnson, may vote against the tabling motion out of principle. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) has announced he would do so, although he has not said how he will vote on the motion to vacate itself.

Greene pulled the trigger Wednesday after almost two months of warnings for Johnson to end his coalition government with Democrats during which the endangered Speaker unleashed a torrent of President Joe Biden’s priorities into law.

While long anticipated, the motion’s inevitability seemed to wane this week as Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) met Monday and Tuesday with Johnson for a combined three hours to discuss a path forward. The pair proposed four accountability measures to ensure the Speaker would not advance an agenda opposed by a majority of Republicans, including preventing further American funding of Ukraine’s faraway war.

Johnson had continued to state he was hearing the duo out and considering their proposals while insisting it was “not a negotiation.”

But Tuesday evening, after complaining (yet again) he had not been getting enough sleep, Johnson appeared to let the veil drop, sneering and rolling his eyes when asked if he would give Greene an answer soon.

Pretty much everyone here is not only outraged by that but also by Johnson.

Pick more strawmen but DO NOT ANSWER why your side feels that they are more informed than Pres Trump.

That may be true, but there’s a more immediate concern that needs to be considered - handing over the speakership to Jeffries. If that were to occur, you can count on the House doing whatever they can over the next 8 months to either prevent Trump from winning the election or prevent him from being sworn in.

I'm already on record disagreeing with MTG's timing on this.

My point is that Johnson has done far more damage than MTG.

vote to vacate

rinse and repeat till 2025

Exactly my view as well. Tie Congress up as much as possible. I'll note you left out 'lather' from the instructions. Just as well.

It. Is. All. Of. Them.

Only 'diff is degree of hiding DSC, and being Controlled Opposition.

We don't need congress right now, as we have 'Continuity of Government'.

Why did Republicans line up to back stab Trump?

That’s like walking into a gun fight disarmed. While you are all proper and Constitutional, your opponents are willing to do what is necessary to seize power.

MTG just handed the house over to the Democrats and the Democrats will everything necessary to push their agenda through until election day.

I can’t see anything good coming from that.

Meaningless garbage. Johnson has overwhelming support, the only other available candidate is Hakeem Jeffries.

Why have the Republicans not secured our borders during the past 50 years of this epic invasion?

Is it all the Democrats fault?

Now we’ve given probably handed Hakeem what little leverage we still had with this useless exercise.

We had no leverage before the motion to vacate, and we have no leverage now. What is the difference?

For whatever reason, Johnson is a servant of the Democrats. The Democrats effectively control the House of Representatives right now. They get whatever they want, and the nominal Republican majority means nothing.

It will simply become more obvious with a couple more Republicans stepping down.

“Johnson has overwhelming support, the only other available candidate is Hakeem Jeffries.”

The GOP Speakers (Congressmen Boener, McCarthy, Johnson and I will add Senator McConnell) have done absolutely nothing for this country. They couldn't negotiate their way out of a paper bag. They lacked spine, principal, and courage. They make me sick.

Seems like they could have material on her, given how this goes against DJT, who she claims she supports.

I for one would prefer a house controlled by Democrats. It’s the only chance to get Repukes tonvote against something.
