McDonald's is working to introduce a $5 value meal
CNBC ^ | May 10, 2024 | Kate Rogers

McDonald’s is working to introduce a value meal in U.S. stores to help offset an increasingly challenging environment for consumers, two people familiar with the matter told CNBC.

The people said the $5 meal could include four items: a McChicken or McDouble, four-piece chicken nuggets, fries and a drink. The value meal was first reported by Bloomberg News.

The potential new offering comes at a time when low-income consumers are beginning to pull back on spending, particularly at fast-food brands. Mentions of low-income consumers on company earnings calls are at their highest levels in nearly two years, according to data from Bank of America. Executives from McDonald’s to Wendy’s to Dave and Buster’s have all noted the restraint in spending.

We don’t eat that crap anyhow. We eat at home, the old fashioned way.

A large pastrami on rye with a dill pickle for about a buck.

I can’t find anything about McDonald’s stem cell beef. Says it’s 100 percent beat with no fillers.

Won’t work. Does America know the government is complicit in this?

Sorry, I don’t understand your response. I just stated the price of two Wendy’s menu items.

They made a hell of a lot better burgers and fries when the azhos weren’t making 20 bucks an hour.

It might be a “loss leader.” An item a store sells at a loss, in order to get people to enter the store and hopefully buy other stuff as well. Or to get people into the habit of entering the store; or maintain their habit of entering the store.

But wait! I was told emphatically that the convenience of Fast Food will always override the price!

If what I’ve been told was true, then why would McDonald’s bother to introduce a $5 Value Meal?

One of my sisters would only eat Campbell’s chicken noodle soup. My parents would make her sit at the table for hours, trying to get her to eat other things, but she refused. She eventually grew out of it, but she never grew out of being crazy.

I always nuke the fries and the sandwich @ 40% power for 20-30 seconds at home.

McDonald’s is your kind of place
They feed you rattlesnakes

French fries between your toes
Hamburgers up your nose

The last time I went in there
They fried my underwear

McDonald’s is your kind of place

McDonald’s food is the worst. It all tastes fake. They heavily pepper their hamburgers just to make them taste like something.

My local Arby’s is now asking all customers if they want to “Round Up” for the Arby Employee Appreciation Program. So instead of tipping at a fast food place they are trying this nonsense. It’s frigging unbelievable. Now I go and just get the 2 for $6 sandwiches and there’s nothing to round up. I have coke or water at home. I’m not tipping for fast food, period.

There is a big markup on the ingredients to make a meal.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/priceonomics/2017/04/07/how-much-do-the-ingredients-cost-in-your-favorite-foods/?sh=7ca8725111ed

When you go to a fast food place you are actually paying for the convenience of not making it yourself. Fast food restaurants are not competing against other fast food restaurants, they are competing against the consumer deciding if the cost of a hamburger at a fast food place is worth the 30 minutes (or less) of time for them to make it at home.
