Gavin Newsom Proposes Cutting 10,000 Vacant State Jobs to Close State Deficit

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) announced his proposed $288 billion state budget, which would cut thousands of vacant state jobs and funding to more than 200 state programs in order to close the state’s $27.6 billion deficit.

Newsom revealed his budget proposal on Friday for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, which starts on July 1, citing the importance of accountability and responsibility, according to ABC7 News.

This comes a month after state officials agreed to reduce California’s deficit by $17.3 billion after Newsom announced in January that the state’s deficit was $37.9 billion. The state deficit ended up being closer to $45 billion, which was $7 billion more than Newsom and state officials had estimated.

“Positions that are currently not filled are also not getting paychecks. So there’s no cash outflow. And that’s how you get rid of a deficit?”

Thank you.

At the end of the work day in Los Angeles County, hundreds of Mexicans DRIVE THEIR LOS ANGELES COUNTY WORK VEHICLES down to the border with Mexico.

Instead of driving their own private vehicles, home.

You could run the entire state using a cheap computer. The only reason it’s bloated and complex is because they made it that way. It’s why they could fire 10,000 people and not have a hiccup. I heard there are like 250,000 state employees...Insane!

And there is like 2.7 million total employed in government in one form or another, in just the State of California alone.☺

They have a positions and bureaus for everything. It’s far beyond disgusting. This is what the Founders warned us about.

California is still a lost cause. No real vote fraud protection and many of the inner city votes in Los Angeles are fabricated. San Francisco is somewhat interesting in my white friends living in the city who are Democrats and a bit bewildered but probably not enough to flip yet. They already got rid of the far Left DA but still make too much money to feel a pinch.

"How does cutting a “vacant job” save money?"

Ghost employees getting ghost paychecks? Where has the money that was allocated for those jobs when they were created gone? Those jobs have likely been budgeted for every year at budget time for the years they've been in existence. Sounds like somebody's pocketing the money.

They would begin to save money if every person who quit or retired was not replaced.

I worked in a Pentagon organization that did this ‘trick’ for 2 years....never filling empty billets. Eventually, my 4-man office/shop got down to just me...then I left.

If you already aren’t paying for those positions, because they aren’t filled, you won’t save any more for also not filling them in the future.

I’m also planning to drop 20 pounds by summer by forgoing my daily banana split. No, I haven’t had a banana split in years, but, I budgeted for one a while ago and I could have one every day if I wanted to. This is going to save me so many calories.

Maybe they are using this to change projected future deficit, and treating lack of future spending as savings?

I’m hearing the real number for California’s deficit is north of $100bn. But they’re fudging the numbers until after the election.
