'Gays' re-create Genesis with Adam and Steve

In the beginning, there is nothing. Then the Stage Manager comes out giving commands.

``Monday, go. Thursday, Garden of Eden, go.''

With dramatic music in the background, in come lighting, props and the First Man.

``Who am I?'' asks Adam. ``Where am I? Am I gay?''

As Adam (John Hensley) makes a feminine gesture with his hand, the audience roars with laughter. This is Genesis according to Paul Rudnick, who in The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, the second presentation at the Fifth Lesbian/Gay Play Festival, gives vent to the statement ``God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.''

A co-production of The Public Theatre and the Gay & Lesbian Community Center of South Florida, Most Fabulous, which had a good run Off-Broadway, is often hilarious, at times philosophical and mostly self-deprecating.

Despite drawbacks -- an unappealing auditorium and a mixed bag of acting talent -- this production, directed by Kate Powers, plays well to its strength: Rudnick's witty dialogue.

As you might suspect, there's no Eve in this Garden of Eden. Adam's co-created fellow human is Steve (Greg Harrison), and they happily play and cavort. In the absence of the snake and the apple, the Stage Manager (a convincing Teresa Alexandra) orders a physical reaction that propels the men to want sexual contact. (Discovery of their sexuality, including Harrison's rubbing of his genitals, are the only scenes in the play that could make some in the audience uncomfortable.)

But soon Adam and Steve realize to their horror that they are not alone in the garden. Jane (Sabrina Reed) and Mabel (Valerie Silidker) also live as a couple, and the four continue through the Biblical ages -- with scenes such as The Flood, The 39th Day and The First Christmas Eve -- until they get to the 20th Century.

Most Fabulous raises issues of concern to gay couples, such as having children and how gays fit in organized religions. But it always treats these with humor.

``They have children, we have taste,'' quips Adam.

Standing out from the rest of the cast is Hensley, who easily adopts the role of the inquisitive Adam, delivering his funny lines with timing and nuances.

Other highlights include Merry Jo Pitasi as Rabbi Sharon, the lesbian and handicapped talk-show rabbi; Sabrina Reed singing Ave Maria as Jane, and Scott Serven in his multiple roles.

The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told is not a play for everyone. It contains explicit sexual descriptions and its humor relies heavily on gay stereotypes. Yet its comedy can produce a good belly laugh.

If he actually said that.....then it would be on tape and there would have been articles from here to yon...with the proof to back it up....ie, interviews, etc.

As I said, Bob Larson is considered a fraud by any rational Christian. He is a joke, and he takes advantage of the weak-minded and weak-willed in order to line his pockets. He's not even worth the attention. Did you know that he had a short time on the AFN broadcasting network? And where is he now? Are you familiar with the case involving his child and abuse? Perhaps you should investigate this man before you fall further into his trap.

Never heard or saw them. Would you be so kind as to show those to me... or point me to the sources where you found them? I can't make a judgment based on conjecture, since there are alot of people out there (well-meaning but misguided) whose whole mission in life is to assassinate the character of those they don't agree with, in doctrine.

My source is my own memory of the events surrounding his prison sentence and being dropped from AFN. His own words and the words of the president of AFN. http://www.americanewsnet.com/ ask them yourself if you doubt me.

That is an opinion. I went to see for myself and did not see anything out of line.

Did you know that he had a short time on the AFN broadcasting network? And where is he now?

I have never heard of AFN, but he has dropped a few stations over the years due to financing. He has had a regular program on TBN and CBN for years.

Perhaps you should investigate this man before you fall further into his trap.

I don't indulge in entrapment with any ministry, nor am I naive. I watch, listen, then go see for myself, to find if they are scripturally sound before I will give them any further attention. I also know that TBN is VERY particular about who they'll broadcast on their network, checking their credentials and background. I've seen them drop people in the past many times...for having questionable ministries... not wanting to be associated with them. Furthermore, ANYONE that puts their eyes on mere men as the foundation of their faith, are dead wrong. I saw lots of people who walked away from their faith when Jimmy Swaggart fell. They had their eyes on him and his ministry... not Jesus... which is my point.

The link you gave me...just presented alot of search engines...ie, googlesearch, yahoo, etc. There wasn't anything on the site to look up any particular articles. BTW, I just got off the phone with BLM and they say the accusations you presented here, are totally false. They did ask where you got your information and I told them what you said, gave them the website you referred me to... and the discussion thread here. We'll see what happens.. and I'll forward the info to you. :)

It's always easier to blaspheme the real God. If you don't think so, try to think of something blasphemous to say about "Thor." Go ahead...I'm waiting...
